This paragraph comes from _Soldiers of Evil_ by Tom Segev,
McGraw-Hill, 1987, page 154:

“In the autumn of 1944 Goeth was arrested in connection with an
investigation of corruption in the camps, the same investigation by
Morgen that brought about the execution of Karl Koch and Hermann
Florstedt. Goeth was also suspeed of embezzlement, but before he could
be put on trial the war ended. The Americans who captured him turned
him over to the Poles, who hanged him, not far from his camp. It was a
lightning trial that lasted only two weeks — Goeth was convicted of te
murders of tens of thousands of people. During his trial Goeth
displayed provocative indifference. He accepted responsibility for
what happened at Plascow. He had been given authority and permission
to do everything he had done, he said, and acted in accordance with
the orders he had received. He was at peace with himself to the end,
his widow said, a political soldier.”
