“The Sariche’s use of Arthur Butz, a Northwestern University
professor of Electrical Engineering who wrote ‘The Hoax of the
Twentieth Century,’ as a reference on the Holocaust prompted Peter
Hayes, an Associate Professor of Modern GErman History at
Northwestern, to issue a response to their campaign. Of Butz’s
work, Hayes wrote, ‘It presents the history of the Holocaust as
Heinrich Himmler … wanted people to believe it occurred. Butz
accepts the camouflaging vocabulary of Nazi sources at face value,
rejects all other written and eyewitness records … and thus
concocts an account that virtually all professional historians have
rejected.'” (ADL, 27)
