Apparently Mr. Gottlieb, seconded by Mr. Kilpatrick, believe that all of
the main conspiracy theories of the past two generations are nonsense.
Further, Mr. Kilpatrick opines that those who believe that some or many
of the main conspiracy theories are, indeed, true are probably on
welfare. Do I have it right, Messrs. Gottlieb and Kilpatrick?
Well I DO believe that many of the main conspiracy theories carry with
them a probability (of being correct) of much better than 50%… and I am
NOT on welfare, rather I manage an apartment complex, an operation that
is, well, complex. Frankly, I cannot imagine anyone of Mr. Kilpatrick’s
limited mental outlook successfully holding down such a job. One must
have a wide knowledge not only of materials and maintenance, but also of
people, their secrets and their foibles.
I have just finished today JFK: CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE by Charles A.
Crenshaw, M.D., with Jens Hansen and J. Gary Shaw, Signet/Penguin Books,
1992. Dr. Crenshaw was a surgeon on the surgical team at Parkland
Hospital which tried to save the life of John F. Kennedy. Unlike the
characterization of Parkland given to the American public by the
mainstream mass media, Parkland was, at the time of the JFK assassination
a first class trauma center with years of *M*A*S*H*-like experience due
to a steady stream of shooting and knifing cases provided by a fairly
rough-hewn surrounding population. Dr. Crenshaw had at that time a great
deal of experience with such wounds, as had the other doctors and
surgeons working in the Trauma rooms.
Without revealing the whole of the book, I will say that Dr. Crenshaw saw
*two* gunshot wounds to the head of JFK that were fired from in front of
him, not from in back of him. Why did Dr. Crenshaw wait thirty years to
reveal what he had seen? Fear, plain and simple. Fear of physical harm
>from one of the “grey suits” running around the hospital carrying
pistols, fear of opprobrium by his colleagues for lack of discretion,
fear that his medical career might suddenly be brought to a halt…
There is much more to the book and it is well worth reading. It certainly
puts the last nail in the coffin of the notion that JFK’s assassin was a
lone nut, Lee Harvey Oswald. For most of us with clear heads and
responsible positions that last nail occurred long ago. For people like
Mr. Gottlieb and Mr. Kilpatrick that moment and that nail may never come
at all. Some people just naturally like fantasy to reality.
Speaking of fantasy, last night I saw selected portions of the TV airing
of THE PELICAN BRIEF with Julia Roberts. The opening few moments of the
movie were intriguing and I thought I’d watch it, but no sooner had the
first few lines been said than I had to run to the bathroom to throw up.
The story theme was a truly sorry pastiche of all the Hollywood/New
York/mass media icons and failed notions rolled into one huge and
thoroughly nauseating ball. But I did check into the action once in a
while. It seems that the Hollywood moguls behind such productions as THE
PELICAN BRIEF have finally grasped the thorny idea that the public is
interested in conspiracies, that they have to do stories about
conspiracies. So, of course, they try mightily to do a conspiracy story
that puts their side in the role of the oppressed, everything politically
correct, that is. Some of the scenes were worth guffaws, some could only
be dealt with by ROTFLMAO.
Particularly, one is edified by the sight of a journalist doing her duty
against all odds. Isn’t it great that such devotion to the truth at least
happens that way on a fictional television show? Isn’t it a shame that it
doesn’t happen that way in real life? H. Ayre.
