of
the Anglo/Boer war. During which time they, the British, threw tens of
thousands of innocent Boer women and children into dirty filthy and
hopelessly inadequate concentration tent camps, where they systematically

deny!

The museum and monument here in Bloemfontein stands as a reminder to us of

Qana, southern Lebanon – It was a massacre. Not since Sabra and
Chatila had I seen the innocent slaughtered like this. The Lebanese
refugee women and children and men lay in heaps, their hands or arms
or legs missing, beheaded or disembowelled. There were well over a
hundred of them. A baby lay without a head. The Israeli shells had
scythed through them as they lay in the United Nations shelter,
believing that they were safe under the world’s protection. Like the
Muslims of Srebrenica, the Muslims of Qana were wrong.

In front of a burning building of the UN’s Fijian battalion
headquarters, a girl held a corpse in her arms, the body of a grey-
haired man whose eyes were staring at her, and she rocked the corpse
back and forth in her arms, keening and weeping and crying the same
words over and over: “My father, my father.” A Fijian UN soldier
stood amid a sea of bodies and, without saying a word, held aloft
the body of a headless child.

“The Israelis have just told us they’ll stop shelling the area,”
a UN soldier said, shaking with anger. “Are we supposed to thank
them?” In the remains of a burning building – the conference room of
the Fijian UN headquarters – a pile of corpses was burning. The roof
had crashed in flames onto their bodies, cremating them in front of
my eyes. When I walked towards them, I slipped on a human hand…

Israel’s slaughter of civilians in this terrible 10-day
offensive – 206 by last night – has been so cavalier, so ferocious,
that not a Lebanese will forgive this massacre. There had been the
ambulance attacked on Saturday, the sisters killed in Yohmor the day
before, the 2-year-old girl decapitated by an Israeli missile four
days ago. And earlier yesterday, the Israelis had slaughtered a
family of 12 – the youngest was a four- day-old baby – when Israeli
helicopter pilots fired missiles into their home.

Shortly afterwards, three Israeli jets dropped bombs only 250
metres from a UN convoy on which I was travelling, blasting a house
30 feet into the air in front of my eyes. Travelling back to Beirut
to file my report on the Qana massacre to the Independent last
night, I found two Israeli gunboats firing at the civilian cars on
the river bridge north of Sidon.

Every foreign army comes to grief in Lebanon. The Sabra and
Chatila massacre of Palestinians by Israel’s militia allies in 1982
doomed Israel’s 1982 invasion. Now the Israelis are stained again by
the bloodbath at Qana, the scruffy little Lebanese hill town where
the Lebanese believe Jesus turned water into wine.

The Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres may now wish to end this
war. But the Hizbollah are not likely to let him. Israel is back in
the Lebanese quagmire. Nor will the Arab world forget yesterday’a
terrible scenes.

The blood of all the refugees ran quite literally in streams
>from the shell-smashed UN compound restaurant in which the Shiite
Muslims from the hill villages of southern Lebanon – who had heeded
Israel’s order to leave their homes – had pathetically sought
shelter. Fijian and French soldiers heaved another group of dead –
they lay with their arms tightly wrapped around each other – into
blankets.

A French UN trooper muttered oaths to himself as he opened a bag
in which he was dropping feet, fingers, pieces of people’s arms.

And as we walked through this obscenity, a swarm of people burst
into the compound. They had driven in wild convoys down from Tyre
and began to pull the blankets off the mutilated corpses of their
mothers and sons and daughters and to shriek “Allahu Akbar” (God is
Great”) and to threaten the UN troops.

We had suddenly become not UN troops and journalists but
Westerners, Israel’s allies, an object of hatred and venom. One
bearded man with fierce eyes stared at us, his face dark with fury.
“You are Americans,” he screamed at us. “Americans are dogs. You did
this. Americans are dogs.”

President Bill Clinton has allied himself with Israel in its war
against “terrorism” and the Lebanese, in their grief, had not
forgotten this. Israel’s official expression of sorrow was rubbing
salt in their wounds. “I would like to be made into a bomb and blow
myself up amid the Israelis,” one old man said.

As for the Hizbollah, which has repeatedly promised that
Israelis will pay for their killing of Lebanese civilians, its
revenge cannot be long in coming. Operation Grapes of Wrath may then
turn out then to be all too aptly named.

REALITY BITES AT QANA

Qana, Southern Lebanon

Herve de Charette’s face was as white as death. The French Foreign
Minister, neatly clad in blue suit and tie, had gingerly walked through
the
scene of last week’s massacre at the UN’s compound, nodding diplomatically
as the UN’s Fijian commander described the 12 minutes in which Israeli
shells slaughtered up to 120 refugees, the sliced-up corpses that his
soldiers were forced to pick up, the difficulty in identifying parts of
the
children who had been torn to pieces. Mr de Charette listened with
distaste. But then he was confronted by a survivor.

Fawzaya Zrir, a small, frail woman in a scarf, simply walked up to the
French Foreign Minister and began talking to him with an odd mixture of
affection and anger. “For us, France is our mother and God is our
Father,”
she said in a flight of rhetoric that might have been written by the Quai
d’Orsay public relations men, who beamed happily at this fortunate
encounter.

Then things began to go wrong. “We have lived through hell,” Mrs Zrir
continued. “The people were chopped into pieces by the Israeli bombs.
They
bleed, these people. You should have seen the heads.”

At the French foreign minister’s right, a Lebanese softly translated the
woman’s dreadful words. The PR men began to look uneasy. “We have lived
here 40 years and now we are treated like animals,” the woman cried. “Do
you know what the dogs did at night after the killings? They were hungry
and I saw them in the ruins eating fingers and pieces of our people.”

Mr de Charette stared at her as if he had seen a ghost. This had clearly
not been part of the programme, a schedule that was supposed to have
whisked
the foreign minister from a light lunch at UN headquarters in Naqqoura to
a
photo-opportunity on the roof of the wrecked UN battalion HQ, a
three-minutes press conference to give the impression of openness and a
swift drive back to the coast and a helicopter to Beirut – everything, in
fact, that would enhance France’s much-trumpeted love for Lebanon.
Reality
had very definitely not been part of the programme.

A UN soldier was quite blunt about it. “This place is going to be turned
into one of those awful pilgrimage sites for the great and the good,” he
muttered. “Boutros-Ghali sent his emissaries today to express their
horror.
But they’ll do no more than they did after Srebrenica. They’ll tut-tut
and
shrug it off. and they won#018#t even have the guts to condemn Israel
even
now
– for this wickedness.”

And indeed, the UN Secretary-General did send General Frank Van Kappen of
the Netherlands army – not, perhaps, a happy choice after the Dutch army’s
disgrace at Srebrenica and he duly marched round the site of the worst
carnage, asking how many rounds landed, where the Katyusha missiles were
fired from and whether he could be shown this site to discover if any
Israeli shells bad fallen there.

He would be meeting with General Amnon lipkin Shahak, the Israeli chief of
staff, he said.
Yes, he would be asking to meet the soldiers who fired the fatal artillery
rounds – “fat chance of that,” another UN soldier said as he listened to
all
this – and with that, Van Kappen, an immense figure in his steel flak
jacket
and huge helmet clanked out of the compound with a colonel from the Royal
Engineers.

Mr de Charette was even more gentle of spirit. What had happened on
Thursday was ‘unfortunate”, an event for which France wished to show its
sympathy for the Lebanese. So how did it rank in the scale of civilian
atrocities? How did it rank, for example, beside the Sarajevo market
massacre?

“Frankly,” the Foreign Minister replied sharply, “I have not had an
opportunity to make categories of unhappiness we have to work to do is to
make it impossible for this to happen in the future in Lebanon.” And so
any
all of us. Did he believe Israel had given sufficient explanation of the
massacre? “I hear there is an inquiry we have to await the result.”

The problem, however is that neither America nor Europe are going to
condemn a country which pounded refugees of Qana with 155mm shells for 12
minutes; and such condemnation is about the only palliative that the
Lebanese might accept for the moment.
And you can see their point. On the coast road back to Beirut last night
there were burning cars, civilians deliberately targeted by Israeli
warships
north of Sidon, three of whom had been badly wounded. Had this being a
Syrian warship shelling Israeli civilians on the Haifa-Tel Aviv road, of
course, Mr Clinton himself would have deplored -rightly- an act of
“international terrorism”. But not a word of criticism about this
scandalous targeting of Lebanese civilians was uttered by the foreign
ministers of America, Russia, France and Italy as they sought to bring an
end to an apparently unstoppable war.

12 people in one building…… their argument…. Hizbullah fired
a Katyusha from that area….. bullshit!!!! Since the beginning of
the attacks, the Israeli army has hit nothing…. NOTHING… but
civilian targets….. An ambulance with 4 children and old folks was
hit by a rocket from a plane…. their excuse: The driver was
Hizbullah…..

Tomorrow morning I am taking my car to all the near grocery
stores to buy as much baby milk as the car can carry and distribute
it all to the schools that have lactating children or children in
need of milk.
Our academic year has been disrupted because the southerners have
been placed in schools.

ruled that Wisconsin’s Good Friday holiday is unconstitutional. SHABAZ
said the holiday violates the 1st Amendment because it favors Christianity

John H. Sturdivant, President of the American Federation of Government
Employees, AFL-CIO, has apologized for the statement he made calling
Christian activists “clowns.” He did so under pressure from the Christian
Coalition.

In a letter to the Coalition’s Executive Director Ralph Reed, he states,
in part, ” Let me unequivocally state that it is not my policy …..to
attack, malign, or denigrate the organization or individuls on the basis
of race, religion, gender, or national origin.” He added, “….there
would be no justification or excuse for the type of language used to refer
to your organization and Christians in general.”

The union’s local official has also apologized.

Congress Poised To Mandate Government Registration and Tracking of All
Americans

Imagine an America in which every citizen is required to carry a
biometrically-encoded identification card as a precondition for conducting
business. Imagine having your retina scanned every time you need to prove
your identification. Imagine carrying a card containing your entire
medical,
academic, social, and financial history. Now, imagine that bureaucrats,
police officers, and social workers have access under certain
circumstances
to the information on your card. Finally, imagine an America in which it
is
illegal to seek any employment without approval from the United States
government.

This future may be more real than many Americans would like to think if
Congressional lawmakers are allowed to proceed with their most recent
attempt at monitoring the private lives of American citizens.

Enter S. 269, the latest attempt by Congress to mandate a computer-driven,
biometrically-verifiable national identification system. If enacted into
law, S. 269 would require the most comprehensive registration and tracking
of American citizens by the federal government in history. Some experts
have
speculated that once the system envisioned by S. 269 is in place, the
scope
of the identity card could be expanded to include information of a highly
personal nature, such as credit and spending history and medical,
educational, and social records.

On February 29, 1996, the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to begin
deliberation on S. 269, The Immigration Reform Act of 1996. The bill has
already passed the Immigration Subcommittee and is being promoted by
Senator
Alan Simpson (R-WY) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). In the House, Republican
Congressman Lamar Smith of Texas is the key sponsor of a similar bill,
H.R.2202, The Immigration in the National Interest Act. Although the House
bill is not as extreme in its proposals as the Senate version, it still
contains provisions which should be viewed as objectionable by family
privacy advocates. H.R. 2202 is scheduled for a final floor vote on March
18. The Clinton Administration is a strong proponent of both bills.

Why would Congress and the Clinton Administration consider such a plan?

Some Americans believe that America is in the midst of an illegal
immigration crisis. Politicians want to show their constituents that they
are taking strong action against illegal immigration. These politicians
argue that the best way to control illegal immigration is to give the
government the right to approve all employee hiring in America. By using
advanced technology to register, track and store information on every
citizen, they argue, it will be easy to spot illegal immigrants.

If At First You Don’t Succeed . . .

Similar (but unsuccessful) proposals to create a national registry and
tracking system were advanced in the early 1980’s by a powerful array of
government agencies who brushed aside any concerns about personal privacy.
Agencies like the Internal Revenue Service, the State Department, and the
Central Intelligence Agency, each for their own unique reasons, craved a
law
which would require every American to carry a national identity card. One
attempt to register and track Americans came close to being endorsed by
the
Reagan cabinet in July 1981, but it was stopped when President Reagan
personally vetoed the idea on the grounds that it was a massive invasion
of
privacy.

In 1993, under the guise of an immunization bill, Congress attempted to
register and track every American from birth, but the measure was defanged
of its dangerous provisions after tens of thousands of calls and letters
poured into Washington D.C. from parents around the country asking
Congress
to respect their family privacy and individual liberties. Perhaps the most
famous attempt to create a national registry came in 1994 as part of the
Clinton Administration’s ill-fated Health Security Act.

Each time these proposals have been mounted, pro-family forces have
rallied
to defeat them.

Smart Cards, Retina Scans, Voice Patterns and the Coming Biometric Privacy
Invasion

Biometrics is the science of measuring unique physiological or behavioral
characteristics. In recent years, the technology which drives this science
has evolved well beyond fingerprinting and dental records. In fact, the
technology is available to identify people by the length of their fingers,
the pattern of their retinas, the sound of their voices, and the smell of
their skin. Senate lawmakers intend to incorporate advanced forms of this
technology as part of the most comprehensive identification and
information
gathering program in history.

On May 10, 1995, the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration met for a hearing
entitled, “Verification of Applicant Identity for the Purposes of
Employment
and Public Assistance.” The hearing was chaired by Senator Alan Simpson
(R-WY) and was attended by Senators Ted Kennedy (D-MA), Dianne Feinstein
(D-CA), and Jon Kyl (R-AZ). Robert Rasor, from the Financial Crimes
Division
of the Secret Service, provided an explanation to the Subcommittee of the
emerging “biometric” technologies’ role in personal identification: “The
use
of biometrics is the means by which an individual may be conclusively
identified There are two types of biometric identifiers: physical and
behavioral characteristics. Physiological biometrics include facial
features, hand geometry, retinal and iris patterns, DNA, and fingerprints.
Behavioral characteristics include voice characteristics and signature
analysis.”

Although the language of S. 269 does not mandate which specific biometric
technique will be used to register, track and identify every American, it
clearly calls for the use of biometrics (Section 115(7)). Senator Dianne
Feinstein, an original drafter of the proposal, recently explained in a
Capitol Hill magazine that it is her intention to see Congress immediately
implement a national identity system where every American is required to
carry a card with a “magnetic strip on which the bearer’s unique voice,
retina pattern, or fingerprint is digitally encoded.”

“Fifteen years ago, they would have torn the building down.”

Despite the fact that this bill could dramatically increase the role of
the
federal government in the private lives of Americans, the proposal has
received relatively little media attention. Senate sponsors seem to be
pleased by the opportunity to act covertly. During his closing remarks
following the last panel of the May 10 subcommittee meeting, Senator
Simpson
mused on the relative lack of media attention given the hearings and the
overlap between a national ID card and President Clinton’s proposal for a
“Health Security Card” two years ago: “There is much to do here, but I was
just saying to Ted [Kennedy] before he left, a hearing like this fifteen
years ago, they would have torn the building down. And here we are today
just a bunch of us, kind of sitting around and no media, no nothing. This
is
fine with me. I get tired of them on this issue.”

Key Problems With The Bill

Congressional attempts to include privacy safeguards in the language offer
little hope or consolation. Agencies like the IRS and the Social Security
Administration (SSA) have recently been subject to criticism for their
lack
of control over employees who, in violation of the privacy safeguards,
were
opening confidential files and making the information available to
outsiders. Among other things, the bill establishes:

* That the federal government create a national database containing
information on all Americans and immigrants eligible to work in this
country
(S. 269, Sec. 111).

* That all Americans may be required to obtain a national
identification
device, like an ID card (S. 269, Sec. 111(b)).

* Beginning in 1999, all employers must receive authorization from the
national computer database before hiring any new employee this does not
just
apply to immigrants. For each new employee, the company would be required
to
transmit his name and identification number via modem and then wait for
the
national database to respond with an authorization code. If the person’s
name is not in the database, he can not work (S. 269, Sec. 111).

* All American children must register with the SSA by age sixteen. When
they register, they must provide the agency with a “fingerprint or other
biometric data.” The agency would place the fingerprint “or other
biometric
data” on the child’s birth certificate, hoping to make the birth
certificate
more fraud-resistant (S. 269, Sec. 116(7)).

* In violation of the Tenth Amendment, the Senate bill would create
federalize rules pertaining to the creation of driver’s licenses, and
would
unconstitutionally mandate that 1) social security numbers be attached to
the license; and that 2) all drivers licenses “shall contain a fingerprint
or other biometric data.” (S. 269, Sec. 116(b)).

A National Database Would Be a Nightmare!

Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-TX) called the national computer registry
and
move toward a national identity card, “an abomination and wholly at odds
with the American tradition of individual freedom.” Senator Spencer
Abraham
(R-MI) recently joined Armey in signing a letter denouncing the tracking
system. Jack Kemp wrote in the New York Times, “An anti-privacy,
anti-business and anti-American approach is no way to run immigration
policy.”

These bills would create an unprecedented increase in the government’s
ability to collect information. For the first time:

* The government would have a comprehensive registry of every American
name, date of birth, place of birth, mother’s maiden name, Social Security
number, gender, race, and other information. Personal information that is
now scattered in many different places would be consolidated in one
database, controlled by a single federal agency.

* Personal information would be accessible to local agencies and anyone
who claims to be an employer.

* The government would have to grant approval before a company enters
into private employment contract with a private citizen.

The Legislation Is Likely To Pass Unless Significant Opposition Develops
Soon

Under the current political climate, the bill is likely to be enacted into
law. Most Senators do not even realize that the bill would create a
national, computer-linked registry and tracking system driven by biometric
technology. Those who do understand have not properly evaluated the
tremendous threat to individual liberties and family privacy posed by the
measure.

The House Version

In its current form, H.R. 2202 calls for pilot programs to test the idea
of
an computer-linked verification system. It calls for new and unprecedented
databases and data sharing and computer link-ups between state and federal
agencies, thus expanding the government’s ability to monitor private
citizens. Like S. 269, it would, for the first time, require private
employers to receive approval from a federal computer database before
entering into private employment contracts with individuals.

Opposition To The Bills

More than fifty influential organizations representing groups on both the
right and left of the political spectrum have joined together in an effort
to defeat these bills. A number of Representatives and Senators have
responded favorably to their concerns. Two of them, Senators Spence
Abraham
(R-MI) and Rus Feingold (D-WI) have joined together to offer amendments to
delete all references to registries, ID cards, or employment verification
programs from the Senate bill.

Action Is Urgently Needed

The registry and tracking system currently before Congress must be
defeated.
Now is the time to write and call urging your lawmakers on Capitol Hill to
oppose any national registry, tracking and identification system. Tell
them
that the threat to individual liberty and family privacy far outweigh any
potential benefits that such a system might provide in curbing illegal
immigration. If your senator is a member of the Judiciary Committee urge
him
to support the Abraham/Feingold Amendment. Tell them that there are
acceptable solutions to America’s illegal immigration problem but giving
the
government the power to register and track its citizens is not one of
them.

AMERICA’S FATE

For over two weeks, Rick had felt a man without a soul. His emotions had
roared, but now he knew his inner self was a burned-out shell. Only his
intense will kept him alive, and coupled with his worsening finances,
kept
him working.

Richard Thompson had presumed his 35th birthday would be a happy cele-
bration. His life had fulfilled him; a beautiful, bright companion,
loyal
friends of diverse backgrounds, and despite his low salary, he couldn’t
help but be proud of his seven-year old career with Babcock & Wilcox.

But it all creeped up, as the iceberg deftly sailed in the path of the
Titanic, akin to how the “calm before the storm” deadens the senses.

Grandma Thompson adored her only grandchild. Her dying wish was that
Rickie carry on her life-mate’s family name through several grand-
children.
But Jen ended that on April 30th.

Beyond his wildest of nightmares, Jen’s plan had been brewing for weeks.
They _loved_ each other, they planned to build a future together. They
had
been lovers for over eleven months. But then she sprung it on him, like
the assassin slides the knife into the unsuspecting victim.

Jen had a new lover. And she was to marry him on Valentine Day’s.

Why, why, why, Rick had cried — literally — for one of the few times in
this masculine young man’s life.

“WHY?!” was she doing this.

It was beyond his understanding, beyond his great sympathy for her
family’s
misfortunes. She “had to” leave him…for her grandfather’s sake. He was
chronically ill, and being without medical insurance of any kind, his slim
chance was her only, myopically-perceived, option.

Ronnie White, the son of Detroit’s state senator, an education major from
Rick’s alma mater, Michigan, offered Jen hope.

Jen’s Hope was the sinister product of that ultra-liberal bastard from
California, Congressman Lenny Feld’s hideous scheme. A scheme that both
houses of Congress passed with overwhelming support — the only opposi-
tion
was on economic grounds.

Jen’s Hope was $10,000 from Uncle Sap, the price of her body, her mind,
her
soul, her genes.

The Feld Racism Abatement Act authorized one billion dollars to provide a
grant to “any American, who, conscious of the fact that America is a more
beautiful place without racism and prejudice, chooses a marriage partner
of
another ethnic group, as defined by the 2002 Census Act. House Bill 666
will further in an affirmative way the diversity which strengthens our
Nation.”

You see, Jen’s new lover was Black. Nauseatingly shortsighted, she
believed her racial heritage was the cost of her grandfather’s salvation.

Left speechless, Rick just stared penetratingly at Jen, as a battle-wary
soldier does after many intense engagements. Some call it the “10,000
yard
stare.” But his was slightly different. Rick’s was the 10,000 _year_
stare, looking senselessly at the daughter of 10,000 years of blond
Nordic
struggle and suffering.

Jen and Rick parted with few words. Yet soon after, Rick’s anger ex-
ploded. But could he _hate_ his cherished part of his life, the person
who
was one with him in all but genetic union — or so he thought? His rage
began to vent toward those monsters who had done this to her, him.

Rick was never a conscious racist. He felt the “Call of the Blood,” as
he
once heard the Nazis describe it, but he struggled to suppress it.
Pastor
Lind had often explained the tragedy of God’s People in the ovens of
Auschwitz. Little Rickie never forgot. He always knew what his racist
feelings could become, what malignant weed they could sprout into. He,
Rick Thompson, could become the catalyst that murders another six million
human beings.

Rick remembered his thankfulness for the Electronic Democracy Act of
1997,
which prohibited hate speech on the Internet, and how he cheered when a
few
dozen racists were locked up for distributing white suprem- acist and
anti-Semitic propaganda. He was unequivocally appalled by the brutality
and viciousness of the attacks on government installations by conspiracy
nuts and so-called “patriots” on July 4th, 2001, less than five weeks
after
the unanimous repeal of the Second Amendment.

But what had happened to _his_ life? At this point, all was irrelevant,
all was meaningless, excepting his shattered soul, his obliterated
dreams,
even his once unshakable will seemed to falter.

All meaningless, all without relevance.

Were the haters right? Was beloved Pastor Lind wrong? Rick had never —
EVER — thought of joining a hate crusade.

Rick recounted memories later, in an optimistic effort to recover. He
recalled his first encounter with Jen, his first kiss, his first…. He
looked back to the past, in an attempt to find a future he thought
unbuildable.

He pondered some of the terrible things out of his past, the terrible
ideas. Were his emotions getting the best of him? Now, previously
unconscionable, he had a peculiar fondness for those ideas.

It was his 21st birthday, May 1st, 1996, his classmates Bob and Kathy,
outspoken on the matter of race, invited him to celebrate his rite of
passage, to share with him his special day. And they had mentioned an
important program they wanted to discuss with him. Rick recalled they
said
it was presented by some sort of physics professor with a keen sense of
politics. It had intrigued him, being a nuclear engineering student with
a
similar interest in social issues, but he wasn’t about to be bored with
politics on his “Big Day,” especially if it was racist. He wanted to go
down to the Wolverine’s Den, maybe get laid, too. He never spoke to Bob
and Kathy again.

But after his escapade at the Wolverine’s Den, during his 13 block journey

home from the downtown of Ann Arbor, he noticed another message, a
powerful
message which was etched deep in his mind even 14 years later. Then, it
was just another bigoted leaflet plastered to a broken-down facade, but
now
it surged in his mind, and in his heart. Emblazened in red, the text
spoke
of a “Third World America” and “race-mixing.”

The leaflet closed with a slogan.

“14 years…or 14 Words.”
“We must secure the existence of our People and a future for White
children.”

_Clinton Shows Support For WJC_ (ANA)

President Clinton told the World Jewish Congress (WJC) today (4/24/96)
that they have his “full moral and political support” in their quest to
gain assets of “holocaust victims” from Swiss banks. A WJC spokesman said
“The question of Holocaust-era funds in Swiss banks was fully addressed
and the President gave the WJC his full moral and political support. He
even expressed willingness to work with Senator D’Amato of the Banking
Committee on legislation if that was necessary.” A representative of the
Swiss Bankers Association (SBA) said that an independent commission would
be
created to determine the amount of the assets and half of its members
would be appointed by jewish groups and the other half by the SBA. It was
also reported that this commission would be authorized to hire an
international accounting firm and other “experts” to identify the assets
that may have belonged to “victims.”

artists & newspapers sniped at the design as too ‘grandiose and lacking
educational value.’

_London To Create “Holocaust” Museum_ (ANA)

British officials announced yesterday (4/23/96) that London’s Imperial War
Museum will contain Europe’s first comprehensive “holocaust” museum by the
year 1999. They said it will emphasize how the British might have been
able to do more to save the jews during the war. Suzanne Bardgett,
coordinator of the project, said “Few in Britain were properly able to
take on board the gravity of the jews’ predicament.” Rabbi Hugo Gryn said
“It will make the
point that in a civilized society, you can never be a bystander when
something evil is happening.” The cost of building the museum is $20
million and construction is to begin in January.

exercise caution because of Islamic threats and the anger raised in the
Arab world by israel’s vicious military attacks on Lebanese civilian and
infrastructure sites. US citizens were cautioned to avoid mosques,
universities and other public places in Egypt tomorrow when Arab groups
have called for demonstrations in solidartity with the Lebanese. Americans
have been singled out in threats by Egyptian Muslims.

& offended: several days before Easter, Christianity’s most sacred
holiday, an editorial cartoon slapped Christians by depicting Bob Dole as
Jesus nailed to a cross . The Crown of Thorns around his head spells
‘Christian Coalition.” _Times_ officials refused to apologize.
Simultaneously with the insulting cartoon, however, the _Times_ dropped
cartoons 3 times recently by “B.C.” cartoonist Johnny Hart, a regular
therein, when he depicted Christians in a positive light. _Times_ editors
pulled “B.C.” cartoons marking Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. In 1995 they
pulled one commemorating Christmas.

15-year old high school freshman Tabetha Belanger wore an ‘I Love Jesus’
pin to school. She was told by her principal to remove it as it violated
school policy. Board president Sarah Brown-Clark told the _Vindicator_ the
girl was aware of policy but wore the pin “deliberately to call the
question. And the answer remains the same.” Belanger refused to accept the
censorship and consulted an attorney. In early March the school reversed
the ban.

School attorney Ted Roberts said the policy is designed to prohibit
disruptive items, but that the pin caused no disruption. Belanger’s
attorney, David Betras, said, “It’s sad that, with all the problems facing
the Youngstown school board, someone would be forced to get a lawyer to
allow them to express a religious belief.”

and court rulings surrounding separation of Church and State. Be aware of

A tradition of 73 years by Christians holding Easter Sunrise services
overlooking the Pacific Ocean from Mount Soledad has come to an end. The
100-member Athiest Coalition in San Diego obtained a permit to meet under
a cross on the hill at 5am last Easter morning, April 7th. Armed with
Jewish attorneys marcia EPSTEIN and peter IRONS, the Athiest Coalition is
now battling to have the Cross removed.

The San Diego _Union Tribune_ called the move a “frivolous
provocation…..a blatant effort to denigrate the spiritual beliefs of
other people, in this case, Christians.” The paper had called on the
athiests to “relinquish their permit” in the March 3rd edition.

The Mount Soledad Memorial Association went ahead with their celebration

then once there, they can’t strip away your Constitutional liberties.”

There was a conspiracy between Eng- land, France, and Russia to slap

the Jews happened to com- prise about 98 per cent of the Commu- nists in
Europe at that time. And there were some priests there and ministers and
labor leaders, and Masons, and others who had international affili-
ations.
Some background is in order: In 1918-1919 the Communists took over
Bavaria for a few days. Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht and a
group
of other Jews took over the government for three days. ln fact. when the
Kaiser ended the war he fled to Holland be- cause he thought the
Communists
were going to take over Germany as they did Russia and that he was going
to
meet the same fate as the Czar. So he fled to Holland for safety, for
security. After Communist threat in Germany was quashed, the Jews were
still working, trying to get back into their former status, and the
Germans fought them in every way they could without hurting a single hair

on anyone’s head. They fought them the same way that, in this country,
the Prohibitionists fought any- one who was interested in liquor. They
didn’t fight one another with pistols. Well, that’s the way they were
fighting the Jews in Germany. And at that time, mind you, there were 80 to
90 million Germans, and them were only 460,000 Jews. About one half of one
per cent of the population of Germany were Jews. And yet they controlled
all
the press, and they controlled most of the economy because they had come
in
with cheap money when the mark was devalued and bought up practically
everything.
The Jews tried to keep a lid on this fact. They didn’t want the world
to
really understand that they had sold out Ger- many, and that the Germans
resented that.
The Germans took appropriate ac- tion against the Jews. They, shall I
say, discriminated against them wherever they could. They shunned them.
The same way that we would shun the Chi- nese, or the Negroes, or the
Catholics, or anyone in this country who had sold us out to an enemy and
brought about our defeat.
After a while, the Jews of the world called a meeting in Amsterdam. Jews
>from every country in the world attended this meeting in July 1933. And
they
said to Germany: “You fire Hitler, and you put every Jew back into his
former posi- tion, whether he was a Communist or no matter what he was.
You
can’t treat us that way. And we, the Jews of the world, are serving an
ultimatum upon you.” You can imagine what the Ger- mans told them. So what
did the Jews do?
In 1933, when Germany refused to surrender to the world conference of
Jews
in Amsterdam, the conference broke up, and Mr. Samuel Untermeyer, who was
the head of the American dele- gation and the president of the whole
conference, came to the United States and ment from the steamer to the
studios of the Columbia Broadcasting System and made a radio broadcast
throughout the United States in which he in effect said, “The Jews of the
world now declare a Holy War against Germany. We are now engaged in a
sacred
conflict against the Germans. And we are going to starve them into
surrender. We are going to use a world-wide boycott against them. That
will
destroy them because they are de- pendent upon their export business.”
And it is a fact that two thirds of Ger- many’s food supply had to be
imported, and if could only be imported with the proceeds of what they
exported. So if Germany could not export, two thirds of Germany’s
population
would have to starve. There was just not enough food for more than one
third of the popula- tion. Now in this declaration, which I have here, and
which was printed in the New York Times on August 7, 1933, Mr. Samuel
Untermeyer boldly stated that “this economic boycott is our means of
self-defense. President Roosevelt has ad- vocated its use in the National
Recovery Administration,” which some of you may remember, where
everybody was to be boycotted unless he followed the rules laid down by
the
New Deal, and which was declarced unconstitutional by the Su- preme Court
of
that time. Nevertheless, the Jews of the world declared a boycott against
Germany, and it was so effective that you, couldn’t find one thing in any
store anywhere in the world with the words “made in Germany” on it. In
fact,
an executive of thc Woolworth, Company told me that they had to dump
millions of dollars worth of crockery and dishes into the river; that
their stores were boycotted if anyone come in and found a dish marked
“made in Germany,” they were picketed with signs saying “Hitler,”
“murderer,” and so forth, something like these sit-ins that are taking
place
in the South. At a store belonging to the R. H. Macy chain, which was
controlled by a family called Strauss who also happened to be Jews, a
woman
found stockings there which came from Chemnitz, marked “made in
Germany.” Well, they were cotton stockings and they may have been there
20 years, since I’ve been observing women’s legs for many years and it’s
been a long time since I’ve seen any cotton stockings on them. I saw
Macy’s boycotted, with hundreds of people walking- ing arouud with signs
saying “murder- ers,” “Hitlerites,” and so forth. Now up to that time, not
one hair on the head of any Jew had been hurt in Germany. There was no
suffering, there was no starvation, there was no murder, there was
nothing.
Naturally, the Germans said, “Who are these people to declare a boycott
against us and throw all our people out of work, and make our industries
come to a standstill? Who are they to do that to us?” they naturally
resented it. Cer- tainly they painted swastikas on stores owned by Jews.
Why
should a German go in and give his money to a storekeeper who was part of
a
boycott that was going to starve Germany into surrendering to the Jews of
the world, who were going to dictate who their premier or chancellor was
to
be? Well, it was ridiculous.
The boycott continued for some time, but it wasn’t until 1938, when a
young Jew from Poland walked into the German embassy in Paris and shot a
German official, that the Germans really started to get rough with the
Jews
in Germany. And you found them then breaking windows and having street
fights and so forth.
Now I don’t like to use the word “anti-Semitism” because it’s
meaning- less, but it means something to you still, so I’ll have to use
it.
The only reason that there was any feeling in Germany against Jews was
that
they were respon- sible tor World War 1 andd for this world- wide boycott.
Ultimately they were also responsible for world War II, because after this
thing got out of hand, it was absolutely necessary for the Jews and
Germany
to lock horns in a war to see which one was going to survive.

_French Priest Expelled From Anti-Racism Group_ (ANA)

The League Against Racism and Antisemitism today expelled Abbe Pierre from
their honorary committee due to his support for a book that questions the
number of jews said to have been killed in World War II and accuses Israel
of exploiting the “holocaust” for political means. Pierre, a popular
priest
in France, had showed support for the book _Founding Myths of Israeli
Politics_, which was written by his old friend Roger Garaudy. Yesterday
(4/30/96) Pierre backed away from his support of the book, but said he
would
withdraw his personal support for Garaudy only if he did not live up to
his
commitment to recognize any error proven to have been made in the book.
Pierre had been a member of the honorary committee for twenty years due to
his work with the homeless and the poor.

Being an Engineering graduate, I believe that math never lies, but you

have to be to understand the following logic (if you consider) that one,
roughly needs the heat energy of 300 Kg of coal to combust one person.
Multiply this by 6 Million (the persons in question) and you get 1.8
Million
Tons of coal-which is way above the capacities of Germany during the war.

So if bodies were not burned, where are they ?

The question of time. One needs 2 hr. today with modern ovens to burn one
person and need to produce thousands of BTU ‘s of energy. Take that 2 hr.
and divide it by a day. This works out to 12 bodies without time in
between, even with 100 crematories (this is more than existing sites
today)

One cannot burn the missing numbers!

Keep in mind the time span from 1943 May to 1945 March which is 660 days.
This will only produce 792, 000 bodies max-not even close to a seven digit
figure! (6 Mill)

The question of energy, the law of conservation of mass is true! Nothing
is
lost or gained; it’s transformed!

Where would all that energy (have) come from to fuel these so-called
ovens?
And nobody could miss the combustion products, the gases and smell. I
don’t think the Germans would waste the coal, gas or fuel to dispose of
the
Jews when they hardly had enough fuel to run the tanks!

It does not make sense! Thank you!”

Thank YOU! A little common sense and grammar school arithmetic will go a
long, long way!

However, there might be another explanation. I found the following some
time ago and had it recently translated:

The Natural Sciences and Technology
under National Socialism: A Dry Analysis of Special Interest to Engineers

Over a period of almost 5 decades the act of “Coming to Terms with the
Past”
has illuminated every nook and cranny of National-Socialist activity in
war
and peace.

There is however one phenomenon which, until today, has not been described
nor explored, and this is that this cynical (“Nazi”) system managed to
impose its own laws even on nature itself.

We present the following arguments in support of this claim.

1. The fourth law of thermodynamics, the so-called National-Socialist one,
asserts that under certain political conditions, the effects of the other
three laws may be limited.

Proof: Corpses burn like dry wood in the force-field of National Socialism
.
The burning can be enhanced with the addition of water, as the following
practical cases demonstrate.

At the Jerusalem Trial of J. Demnjaniuk, eyewitness Elyiahu Rosenberg
stated
that “after the Germans discovered that women and children burn better
than
adult males, we had to throw the corpses of men into the fire only at the
end.” (M=FCnchener Abendzeitung, 27.2.87)

Remark: A person consists of between 60 and 70 % of water. The higher
percentage holds for the bodies children, which, according to eye-witness
testimony, burnt best of all.

The witness Szyia Warszawsky stated that “when the corpses caught fire,
they
burnt on their own.” (Main record of The Investigation of Nazi Crimes in
Poland).

A statement by French-Jewish doctor C.S. Bendel, sworn on 2.3.46 before an
Allied military tribunal in Hamburg, stated that “it is an actual fact
that
1000 bodies thrown into such a ditch disappeared within an hour, they
turned
into ashes”. (Document reprinted in U. Walendy, “Auschwitz in IG =46arben
Prozess”, Vlotho 1981, p.58)

2. The National-Socialist law of compact packing or the compression of
matter without pressure.

This was applied in order to pack the optimum number of victims into a gas
chamber. According to eyewitness Dr. Bendel (ibid, p.55), “One thousand
people were brought into a room with dimensions 10 by 4 by 1,6 meters (64
cubic meters) […] This could only be achieved by the German method.”

Explanation: The body of an adult fits into a National-Socialist cube of
side 40 centimetres.

3. The law of specific National-Socialist gas circulation. (Spontaneous
homogeneous diffusion in a strongly inhomogeneous cavity-system).

This was confirmed by Judge Melder who tried Ernst Z=FCndel in November
1991
at Munich:

In a gas chamber packed full with people the slowly liberated poison-gas
spreads itself evenly throughout the gas chamber without any fall in
concentration.

4. The law of total annihilation of matter.

Proof: At least at Treblinka around 800 000 murdered people disappeared
without leaving a trace.

5. The National-Socialist principle of oxidation. (Burning with a
throttled
supply of oxygen or without oxygen altogether).

Applied for the disposal of traces during and after mass-murder of Jews in
Poland.

According to perpetrator Rudolf Hoess, “[…] for the most part, those
gassed were burnt behind Crematorium IV […] The bodies were at first
burnt
with oil residue, later by pouring on methanol. In the ditches corpses
were
burnt continuously, that is day and night.” (Martin Broszat (Ed.)
“Commandant in Auschwitz”, Munich 1981, p.165 and p.161 respectively).

Witness Szlama Dragon on the burning of corpses at Auschwitz (statement
made
on 11.5.45): “[…] there were two 30m long 7m wide and 3m deep ditches
at
Auschwitz. The edges of the pits were blackened by smoke”. (Kogon,
Langbein
& R=F6ckerl: “Nationalsozialistische Massent=F6tung durch Giftgas”
(“National-Socialist Mass-Murder with Poison-Gas”), Frankfurt/M 1983,
p.211).

Explanation: In a hole in the ground fire has normally an insufficient
supply of oxygen. Without National-Socialist technology it is impossible
even today to burn wood and paper piles in a 3-metre deep ditch, let alone
heaps of bodies.

Remark: Application of the National-Socialist oxidation principle found
its
perfect fulfilment at Auschwitz, namely under water. For, in the vicinity
of
the camp the water table reaches a level just beneath the surface of the
ground. (Compare the photograph in the Magazine of the paper S=FCdeutschen
Zeitung of 6.12.91, where one can observe a pool of water next to
Crematorium IV). The burning-ditches were thus full of water.

6. The law of racially determined sensitivity to hydrocyanic acid. (The
selective effect of HCN on homo sapiens Hebraeicus).

Proof: The gas chambers at Auschwitz were in the immediate vicinity of
other camp facilities, for instance the SS field hospital. Continuous
ventilation of the gas chambers would certainly not have affected the
guard
detail – clearly a genetically determined phenomenon. Also, following a
still to be unravelled National-Socialist method, the Jewish work details
would have been immune to poison, since they hauled the corpses out of the
gas chambers without any protective clothing, gloves or gas-masks. (M.
Broszat, op. cit. p.130).

7. The gas chamber effect.

In the force-field of a National-Socialist gas chamber there occurs a wave
alteration effect, so that the invisible becomes visible.

Eyewitness Boeck, a member of the guard detail, announced during the
1964-1965 Frankfurt Auschwitz trial that he saw disposal squads working in
the blue haze of Hydrogen cyanide gas.

Hint: Hydrogen Cyanide is normally colourless; ie. invisible. *

8. The National Socialist principle for generating carbon monoxide with
the
help of a Diesel engine.

Proof in the case of Treblinka: “There was a Diesel motor in an annex
which
generated poison gas.” (Kogon, Langbein, R=F6ckerl, op.cit., p.163).

Proof in the case of Belzec: “The engine itself stood there […], it was
Diesel-driven. (K. Gerstein, quoted in Kogon, Langbein & R=F6ckerl,
op.cit.
p.173).

Hint: At that time, to all practical purposes the ideal poison-gas
generator
would have been readily available in the form of one for generating
producer-gas from wood. With 32% of its volume consisting of carbon
monoxide, the propellant gas formed contained a high proportion of this
highly toxic gas. (Meyer’s Encyclopedia/Lexicon, 1974, vol. 12, p.207).

It is clear that special wartime circumstances determined that
producer-gas
generators should have been retained for the maintenance of truck
transport
on the home front. Thus the extermination camps in the East had to make do
with Diesel engines, which even under present political conditions can
only
emit non-dangerous concentrations of about 0.5% carbon monoxide. (Meyer’s
Encyclopedia/Lexicon, 1971, vol.1, p.88). Nevertheless, the circumstances
prevailing during the National Socialist reign made it clearly possible to
gain substantially greater emissions of carbon monoxide from a diesel
engine, contrary to the design of its inventor. In any case one had to
sacrifice extremely scarce Diesel fuel for this purpose; the producer-gas
carburator would have had to make do with wood shavings.

The disclosure by natural scientists and technologists of these examples
of
the fearful capabilities of the terror regime (to name only a few) has
been
long overdue. For, only the knowledge of these things can neatly round off
our picture of National Socialism.

It is amazing that the world has not yet been informed of this, even
though
the victors carried off thousands of scientists as well as all patents and
research results as booty from a vanquished Germany.

Blaus=E4ure, named after the blue in Prussian Blue, itself a cyanide

FIRE AND SWORD IN THE LEBANON

In 1982, when Israel invaded Lebanon, there was no Hizbullah. The
guerillas
who today bedevil Israel, and have provoked Israel’s latest, massive
assault
against Lebanon, didn’t exist.

Soon after the 1982 invasion, I was with the Israeli Army in southern
Lebanon, a rough, hilly region known as `Fatahland,’ after the
Palestinian
groups who had dominated the border area, and used it to attack northern
Israel. My convoy passed through the deserted cities of Sidon and Tyre,
shattered by Israeli artillery; abandoned Palestinian refugee camps
shredded
by Israeli cluster bombs; through eerie, empty towns, like beautiful
Jezzine, where PLO snipers lurked. And, finally, t the Litani River.
Here,
after withdrawing from Beirut, the Israelis decided to dig in and stay.

Southern Lebanon was then a terrifying place, and so it remains today.
Every turn of the road can bring sniper fire, mines or bombs. The great,
ruined Crusader fortress, Beaufort Castle, overwatches the entire area.
After driving the PLO out of southern Lebanon, Israeli set up a self-
styled `security zone’ there, garrisoned by 1,000 Israeli soldiers and a
few thousand thuggish Lebanese mercenaries. This zone, ostensibly
designed
to protect northern Israel from attack, has ironically become Israel’s
last
active military front- and a zone of permanent insecurity.

Before Israel’s 1982 invasion, the Shia Muslim villagers of southern
Lebanon
were apolitical. Dirt-poor, without political power, they had always
been
excluded and marginalized by the French-backed Christian elite that ruled
Lebanon and exploited its commercial wealth. As the PLO became more
aggressive in southern Lebanon,. Shia resentment grew apace. Israeli
agents
slipped across the border to help arm and organize anti-PLO Shia groups,
most notably Amal, and a smaller group, Hizbullah, the Party of God.

The end of Israel’s budding alliance with the Shias in Lebanon came while
I
was there. An Israeli Army convoy drove through downtown Nabatiyah, a
major
farming and religious center. It was Ashura, the most emotional time of
year, when Shias erupt in frenzied grief for their historical leader, the
martyred Ali. The streets were packed with mourners. The Israeli
soldiers
refused to go around the town. Instead, they bulldozed their way through
the
throngs, firing to disperse the Shia. The Shia fired back. Thus began
the
14-year struggle between Israel and Hizbullah.

Iran, the center of the Shia faith, sent arms, money and advisors, both
spiritual and military, to organize the Shia. Nevertheless, Hizbullah was
then, and remains today, an indigenous national Lebanese movement.
Hizbullah is Lebanon’s leading political party. In south Beirut, and
across
southern Lebanon, Hizbullah is the de facto government, efficiently
running
hospitals, charities, clinics, schools, and public order. The feeble,
Syrian- backed government in Beirut rules only the capitol.

Ever since the Nabatiyah incident, Hizbullah guerillas have battled to
oust
Israel occupation forces from southern Lebanon. To everyone’s surprise,
Hizbullah guerillas proved Israel’s most effective, courageous, and deadly
enemies. While the Arab World gave up its struggle with Israel, Hizbullah,
backed by Syria and Iran, fought on.

Israel and its close ally, the Clinton Administration, brand Hizbullah
`terrorists.’ But many nations see Hizbullah as a legitimate – if rather
scary – organization opposing continued Israeli occupation of Lebanon. The
UN has repeatedly demanded that Israel withdraw from Lebanon. Every
Israeli effort to destroy Hizbullah has only strengthened the party and
caused Israel heavy casualties.

Last week, Israeli guns and aircraft savaged southern Lebanon after
Hizbullah fired rockets into northern Israel. Both sides claimed they were
retaliating for attacks on civilians. Israel casualties were light; the
Hizbullah attacks were more of an irritant than national threat. But they
directly challenged Prime Minister Shimon Peres, who must convince Israeli
voters that he is not a dove, as critics charge, but tough enough to crush
any security threat. Israel’s Operation Grapes of Wrath showed Peres can
be
as hawkish as the opposition Likud. Peres did not initiate this crisis,
but
he will certainly benefit from it.

By ravaging southern Lebanon, killing some 150 civilians, and driving
400,000 refugees northward to Beirut, Israel was clearly also attempting
to
pressure the Lebanese government and its patron, Syria, to curb or even
crush Hizbullah. Israel has learned the folly of sending ground troops
deep
into Lebanon.

Normally, the US would pressure both sides into quickly ending the
fighting. Instead, the Clinton Administration gave Israel carte blanche in
Lebanon, leading an Israeli newspaper to call Clinton, `the last Zionist.’

His motivation was more likely domestic US politics than Zionism. Critics
charge the Clinton Administration, gripped by election fever, has
virtually
delegated direction of US Mideast policy to Jerusalem.

Even so, Israel’s latest foray into Lebanon will probably backfire.
Lebanese of all factions have united behind Hizbullah. Syria will not be
easily pressured out of Lebanon, nor will it let Israel off the hook there
until the Golan Heights are returned. The heavy Lebanese civilian
casualties caused by Israeli shelling are obviously counter- productive to
a
regional peace.

Occupation of southern Lebanon has brought Israel and the Lebanese nothing
but grief. One day, Israel must withdraw. But as previous Israeli
governments have discovered to their dismay, getting out of the Lebanese
quagmire is far harder than getting in. Until then, angrier-than-ever
Hizbullah guerrillas will likely continue battling Israel in a dirty war
that neither side wants.

_Jewish Group, Swiss Banks Agree on Fund Plan_ (Reuter)

Swiss bankers and Jewish leaders signed an agreement Thursday setting up
an
independent commission to find out if unclaimed millions of dollars in
Swiss
banks belong to Holocaust victims.

The two-page agreement calls for a six member commission — three chosen
by
the bankers and three by Jewish groups led by the World Jewish Congress —
to investigate the claims on a case by case basis.

The agreement was signed by Georg Krayer, head of the Swiss Bankers
Association, and WJC President Edgar Bronfman at the Seagrams building
here.
Bronfman is chairman of Seagrams, the international wine and spirits firm.

The agreement, in a radical departure from traditional Swiss banking
practice, allows an independent group of auditors appointed by the
commission unrestricted access to Swiss bank accounts.

The agreement also calls for the commission to cooperate with the Swiss
government to determine whether Swiss banks or other financial
institutions
still have in their accounts unreported assets or unreturned property
looted
by the Nazis.

The Swiss Bankers Association is on record as saying there is only $32
million in Swiss banks that might belong to Holocaust victims. Bronfman
has
said there could be billions, not only in cash but in gold and art work.

After the signing, the agreement went to the 21-member WJC executive board
for ratification.

The World Jewish Congress has been handling negotiations with the Swiss
Bankers on behalf of Israel and Holocaust survivors.

The agreement ends a battle that began last September when the WJC sought
to
determine the extent of unclaimed assets in Swiss banks belonging to
Holocaust victims and assets looted from them by the Nazis.

Many survivors of the Holocaust have long complained of the difficulties
they have had in retrieving their family assets from Swiss banks after the
Second World War — with the Swiss demanding documentation, including
death
certificates, that could not be provided because of the war.

With President Clinton promising the WJC his full support and with a
Senate
committee investigating the issue, the Swiss Bankers Association last week
reversed its traditional position of refusing to let outsiders look into
its
books.

_Jews Protest At Demjanjuk’s Home_ (ANA)

Jews demonstrated at the home of John Demajanjuk yesterday (5/2/96),
insisting he is the infamous “Ivan the Terrible.” Rabbi Avi Weiss yelled
at
Demjanjuk’s Ohio home “We will not be silenced until…you are deported.”
Demonstrators sang the song “I Believe,” which they say “holocaust
victims”
sang as they were taken to “death camps.” Demjanjuk has a hearing on his
citizenship on May 14 in a federal court in Cleveland. Washington still
believes that Demjanjuk is a “war criminal” who should not be permitted to
remain in America, despite an acquittal by the Israeli Supreme court three
years ago. Rabbi Weiss, head of the Coalition for Jewish Concerns in New
York, has organized several protests at Demjanjuk’s house in the past. He
said it’s their way “our way of telling Demjanjuk and the world that there
is going to be a continuum of memory.” On Wednesday the Ohio Supreme
Court
heard arguments concerning demonstrations at Demjanjuk’s house. A
restraining order prohibits protesters with opposing views from
demonstrating at the same time. A lawyer for Weiss said the restraining
order is a violation of free speech.

_Berlin Rail Station to Become Memorial_ (ANA)

German officials announced today (5/14/96) that a Berlin railway station
is
to be converted to a memorial to thousands of jews they say were deported
to
their deaths by Nazis during World War II. Representatives from German
Rail
and jewish organizations agreed to cover a portion of a Grunewald station
platform with steel plates that have the dates of supposed deportations,
the
number of supposed prisoners and the supposed destination. German Rail
will
fund the project, which is scheduled to begin later this year.

_Argentina to Build “Holocaust” Memorial_ (ANA)

The Argentine jewish community announced yesterday (5/13/96) that their
country will be building a monument to “holocaust victims” which will face
Argentina’s Congress building. In a statement the Delegation of
Argentine-Israeli Associations (DAIA) said “This honors democratic society
and the jewish community of Argentina and the world.” Alfredo Neuburger,
DAIA’s Executive Director, said a law ordering the creation of the
monument
called for artists and architects to present projects. Argentina is said
to
have one of the world’s largest jewish communities.

_Planned Museum of Jewish History in Poland Receives German Backing_

Organizers of the Museum for Jewish History in Poland soon to be built
in
Warsaw now officially have German friends in high places. In mid-April,
President Roman Herzog and a committee of prominent public figures
formally
established a German support organization to help raise funds for the
museum. Besides contributing to the U.S. $50 million building costs and
the
museum’s annual operating budget, the German group intends to support
educational measures that will serve in fighting anti-Semitism and
reconciliation and understanding . The establishment of the German
support
organization fulfills a promise Herzog had made during a visit to Poland
in
1994. The Warsaw museum also enjoys the backing of an international
support
committee headed by Chaim Herzog, the former president of Israel. As its
name suggests, the planned museum will document the history of Poland’s
once
sizeable Jewish community and its contributions to Polish and European
culture. A piece of property on the site of the 1943 Warsaw ghetto
uprising
has been set aside for the museum.

Jewish vigilantes who beat an African-American man last week were indicted
by a grand jury today. Eli Rogatsky, 20, and Josef Prus, 39, face charges
of assault & criminal possession of a weapon for savagely beating handyman
Kenneth Hartley, 36, who is Black.

Hassidic residents stood by and did nothing when the vigilantes assaulted
Hartley in front of a crowd of pre-teens. Other area residents called
police, who then tried to arrest the vigilantes. The incident led to riots
by Hassidics till the wee hours of the morning, keeping Mayor Jiuliani up
all night trying to mediate.

According to the indictments, the pair, backed up by other Hassidics,
beat, punched and kicked Hartley and struck him with their radios. Eleven
other Jews were arrested in the all-night affair in the racially divided
neighborhood.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, who spoke on behalf of the victim, said the
indictments were “a good first step.” “We’re monitoring to make sure there
is no inappropriate plea-bargaining and that they go to trial and that
they prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”

The Hassidics repeatedly referred to Hartley as a “Schwartze.” Prus and
Rogatsky are members of the Shomrin Volunteer Patrol and confronted
Hartley in the mistaken belief his 8-year-old nephew had stolen a bicycle.

I received the following from a reader in Switzerland who took the
information below from a regular news wire.

“. . . Fifty years after the end of the Second World War, a total of 5,570
cases in which individuals are suspected of having committed crimes during
the National Socialist regime remain unresolved, Minister of Justice
Edward
Schmidt-Joertzig (FDP) announced in late February at the presentation of
Germany’s first national compilation of statistics on the prosecution of
Nazi crimes.

‘The data show,’ Schmidt-Joertzig said, ‘that prosecutors still take the
task of bringing those responsible for the horrendous crimes of the Hitler
dictatorship to justice seriously. . . ‘”

According to this correspondent, Germany has prosecuted 106,178 (!)
persons
since 1945. 6,494 were convicted. This amounts to a conviction rate of
6.12% (!) And I would like to add that many were convicted in the
immediate
postwar era when the “eye witness” testimony and affidavits were massively
faked and could seldom be verified.

A perfect example: remember the 7 Germans convicted of the Katyn massacre
(by the Soviets), based on “eye witness” testimony and 4,400 (!)
fraudulent
affidavits by Russian witnesses? All later proven to be coerced and
faked.

Nonetheless, the German soldiers were executed and to this day never
rehabilitated by the Germans or the Russians, even though Gorbachev
ADMITTED
Katyn as one of Stalin’s crimes!

“. . . And this,” writes my Swiss correspondent, referring to the
statistics of people charged compared to people actually convicted, “using
all the kangaroo court powers of the allies and their German puppets! They
should be laughed into oblivion by the world.

These “horrendous” crimes must be in the same realm as the fictitious
“holocaust”- or the conviction rate would be in the 90+%.

Imagine 6% conviction! That boggles the mind! . . ”

It does – doesn’t it? When you think of all the money, misery,
destroyed
reputations and ruined careers etc. that this has meant, you wonder how
the
Allies and their Quislings in Europe can look at themselves in the mirror.

_American Goes on Trial in Hamburg_

Gary Rex Lauck is finally getting his day in court. Lauck, a U.S. citizen,
was taken into custody by Danish police in March 1995 in response to a
German warrant for his arrest and extradited to Germany five months later
after he exhausted all possibilities for appeal (cf. TWIG 4/7/95, p.2;
9/8/95, p.2). On Thursday (May 9), he went on trial in Hamburg for
incitement to violence and hatred (Volksverhetzung) and 37 other offenses.
German law enforcement authorities maintain that Lauck is one of the most
active suppliers of neo-Nazi publications and paraphernalia to rightwing
extremist groups in Germany. Operating from his home in Lincoln, Nebraska,
he is believed to have been in contact with German neo-Nazis since 1972.
Production and distribution of such materials in Germany is explicitly
prohibited under German law. Lauck (42) has long styled himself the leader
of the foreign branch of the Nazi party (National Socialist Workers’
Party-Overseas Organization/ Nationalsozialistische Deutsche
Arbeiterpartei/Auslands- und Aufbauorganisation). Among the publications
he
produces is the bimonthly NS Kampfruf! ( NationalSocialist Battle Call ),
which has an

_Avoiding political storm, German high court backs tough asylum law_ (AP)

BONN, Germany (May 14, 1996 4:30 p.m. EDT) — Germany’s highest court
upheld
on Tuesday a 1993 asylum law that dramatically curbed immigration and
eased
politicians’ fears of a resurgence of right-wing violence against
foreigners.

The Federal Constitutional Court rejected a series of challenges to the
law
that had scrapped Germany’s open-door policy for millions of displaced
people and gave authorities wide powers to turn asylum-seekers back to
neighboring countries.

The eight-judge panel ordered additional safeguards to ensure deported
refugees don’t wind up back in a country where they risk persecution. But
activists involved in the asylum issue called the changes cosmetic and
said
the court had failed to uphold refugees’ human rights.

Chancellor Helmut Kohl said the ruling was “very helpful for the future.”

The court, meeting at its seat in Karlsruhe, dismissed appeals by five
refugees who charged the asylum law was unconstitutional.

A spokeswoman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, Judith Kumin,
called the verdict “disappoinsiders safe often have trouble getting a fair

said.

Among the plaintiffs was Maryam Essa, an Iraqi who sought asylum in
Germany
in 1993 after telling authorities that members of Saddam Hussein’s Baath
party had killed her Christian parents for their beliefs and threatened

which
she arrived. Essa says Greece might expel her to Turkey, which in turn
might
send her back to Iraq.

World War II unleashed a flood of refugees across Europe and beyond.
German
leaders wrote the open-door policy on refugees into the 1949 constitution
to
show they were sincere about making amends for Nazi crimes.

Germany became a beacon for hundreds of thousands of refugees from Soviet
bloc countries after the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall, adding to a stream
of
foreigners seeking sanctuary from war and persecution in Third World
countries.

Of the 6 million foreigners in Germany, about one-third are believed to be
refugees. They include Kurds from Iraq, Turkey and Iran and other people
>from Algeria, Iraq, Iran, Sri Lanka, Russia and eastern Europe. About
350,000 Bosnians are allowed to stay under a special rule until their
country is safe enough for their return.

The asylum law was tightened in May 1993 by politicians desperate to curb
the xenophobia fueling neo-Nazi violence. That year, the number of
foreigners applying for asylum dropped 70 percent, to 127,937 compared to
438,191 in 1992.

Extreme-right attacks dropped by about half, to 1,489 in 1994 from 2,639
in
1992. Figures for last year are expected to show another decrease.

Germany now grants asylum to about 9 percent of applicants.

The court upheld the law’s controversial “safe third nation” rule for
refugees who enter Germany not from their homelands, but via a European
Union country or any other that Germany deems safe.

In practice, it means all refugees who enter Germany by land are
automatically sent back to the transit nations.

Pro-Asyl, a refugee rights group, says the practice has produced “chain
deportations” in which asylum-seekers are expelled from one nation after
another, sometimes ending up in the homelands they fled.

The group urged the government Tuesday to suspend this rule.

world to contribute to a fund to allow Louis Farrakhan’s Chicago-based
Nation of Islam to play a stronger role in American politics, the Libyan
news agency JANA reported Wednesday.

“Black Muslims in America need, for example, five to eight million
(dollars)
to be able to register on electoral lists. They don’t have these millions.
We must pay them these millions,” Gaddafi told an Islamists’ movement
meeting in the eastern city of Benghazi Tuesday.

“It is necessary to mobilize the Black Muslims in America to enable them
to
have a strong voice …. This is not Libya’s responsibility only but that
of
all the World’s Muslim Popular Leadership,” Jana quoted him as saying.

Gaddafi was addressing a meeting of the World’s Muslim Popular Leadership
(WMPL), which he chairs. The meeting was attended by 220 delegates from
Islamist parties, movements and organizations from all around the world,
JANA said. It did not list them.

Tripoli in February denied a report by the Libyan news agency that it had
donated $1 billion to Farrakhan, who met Gaddafi in January during a visit
to Libya, to help set up a Muslim lobby to fight the United States from
the
inside.

Gaddafi, whose 27-year grip on power has been marked by frequent clashes
with the United States, vowed in a speech last year to spend up to $1
billion to help set up such a lobby.

The report brought a U.S. Justice Department investigation directed at
whether there is a prosecutable violation of federal law by Farrakhan and
if
he should be forced to register as a Libyan agent.

In his latest speech Gaddafi proposed the setting up of a fund to be
managed
by the WMPL to fight for what he called the Muslims “Jihad” in the world.

“We have 100 million (Muslims) …. If we take from each 10 dinars for
example, we will get one billion dinars to be deposited in the fund to
serve
for expenses for the Jihad of the (Muslim) nation against the enemy and
for
its progress and industrialisation,” he said.

The Libyan dinar is worth about three dollars at the official rate.

“These funds will be invested and will become two, three, four billions,

controversy
erupted over a fiery speech by Nation of Islam Minister Khalid Muhammad at
Howard University in which he vilified Jews.

Tuesday, in an attempt to understand the close and often-stormy
relationship
between blacks and Jews, Howard University and the American Jewish
Congress
unveiled a new magazine that explores the conflict and commonality between
the two groups.

Blacks and Jews have a common quest: overcoming similar histories of
persecution and exclusion, said John Rieder, hence the name, CommonQuest.

But Rieder, the magazine’s co-editor and a Columbia University professor,
said like feuding families, the special bond has led to a rocky
relationship. At its best, it produced an effective fight for civil
rights.
At its worst, it produced violent clashes such as the Bensonhurst riot in
New York City in which a Jewish motorist struck and killed a black child
and
a Jewish student was stabbed by a black mob.

“Blacks and Jews have both been very creative in maintaining their
separateness while trying to reconcile their belonging,” Rieder said.
“Black-Jewish tension is a result of the ambivalence of intimacy. The
closeness has created an inter-conflict.”

This will not be a can’t-we-all-just-get-along-type of magazine, Rieder
said. He insists the magazine is not about the “piety of brotherhood,” nor
is it “soft and sentimental.”

“There’s no sentimentality when it comes to race. We offer no bromides of
brotherhood, no romance of the Selma (protest) days. We don’t aim to make
anybody — any organization — feel good. Some articles will make you
uncomfortable,” Rieder said.

“What we will do is offer lively explorations of the relationship, in
conflict and amity, and through them of larger issues of identity and
race.”

The idea for the magazine first came in 1993 when Russell Adams, head of
Howard University’s African-American Studies Department, was speaking at
the
U.S. Holocaust Museum. He and several other scholars decided to create a
forum for blacks and Jews to discuss their conflicts in a
non-confrontational setting.

The controversy that erupted after the Muhammad speech confirmed the need
for the magazine, Adams said.

“We said, ‘let’s make the most of an opportunity.’ We got into this
because
we felt it was important,” said Adams, who is also a co-editor. “This is
not
a political reaction to anything, but a response from academics.”

The first issue includes an in-depth analysis of last year’s Million Man
March on Washington, which marked another milestone in black-Jewish
relations. The march, led by Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan, and
which he dubbed “Day of Atonement,” — the English name for Yom Kippur,
the
holiest day of the Jewish year — was one of the largest gatherings in
U.S.
history. The participants, mostly black males, were criticized for
following
Farrakhan, who has been accused of anti-Semitism.

In the issue, several black writers voiced feelings of solidarity and
independence in choosing to participate while several Jewish writers
expressed feelings of betrayal by the marchers.

The issue also includes an emotional narrative of the 1958 bombing of a
Jewish synagogue in Atlanta, and an account of a Jewish author’s
transforming encounter with a black Baptist church in Brooklyn, N.Y.

CommonQuest, based out of Howard’s campus, will be published three times a
year. The magazine was paid for by a grant from the Harry and Jeanette

_Polish-American leader attacks Poland’s policies on Jewish matters_
(Reuter)

CHICAGO (May 10, 1996 6:53 p.m. EDT) – The head of the largest U.S.
Polish-American group criticized the Polish government on Friday for being
too submissive to Jewish demands on World War II reparations.

“The lack of decisive action on the part of the Polish government and some
misjudgment has enabled the Jews to take advantage of the situation and
acquire more and more influence,” said Edward Moskal who heads both the
Polish National Alliance and the Polish American Congress.

In a letter to President Aleksander Kwasniewski, Moskal reminded the
Polish leader that when he met him recently in Warsaw “I expressed my
concern regarding the submissiveness of the Polish authorities with
respect to demands raised by Jews.”

Moskal made the comments in a letter to Kwasniewski, a copy of which was
published in Dziennik Zwiqzkowy, a Polish language Chicago daily
newspaper.

Moskal said Poland has made conciliatory steps but is still being accused
unfairly of anti-Semitism. He said he felt obliged to raise the points he
was making because “I feel that the 10 million strong Polish American
community which represents one-fourth of the population of its native land
has a right to express an opinion on such matters.”

Moskal complained specifically about:

— The activities of Rabbi Avi Weiss at the site of the Auschwitz
death-camp. He said Weiss had been allowed to create “undue disturbances”
without a permit.

— An apology issued by the Polish government on the anniversary of the
–post-war Kielce pogrom. Moskal said the apology was “unfortunate and
–unnecessary” because the blame for the incident has not been
established.

— “Preferential treatment” given Jews seeking return of former property
in –Poland. He said non-Jews have made similar claims but “no special
–reprivatization bill has been enacted in their case.”

— The decision by authorities to “back down” from allowing a commercial
–enterprise to be built near the Auschwitz site. He said tourists need a
–shop where they can “purchase a token of rememberance.”

“Mr. President, there cannot be a different meaning to the word ‘truth,”‘
he concluded.

“It is true that Nazi Germans killed Jews with premeditation and intended
the biological liquidation of the whole nation as part of Hitler’s ‘final
solution.’

“However, at the same time there is the truth of the killing by Israelis
of innocent women and children who had taken refuge in the United Nations
camp,” he said.

“Those murders have been justified by the Jews as a ‘mistake’, without
contrition or apology,” he added.

NEW YORK (May 10, 1996 11:17 p.m. EDT) — On Eastern Parkway on Friday,
Joseph Strassberg cradled his daughter, his wrists still chafed, cut and
red
>from the handcuffs slapped on him the night before.

There was no burning trash in Crown Heights anymore, just the smoldering
resentment felt by him and his fellow Hasidim for what they say was the
excessive force the police used to quell a protest.

The Hasidim had been angered by the arrests of two of their security
patrol
members who had fought with the uncle of a black youth suspected of
stealing
a bicycle. Shouting, “Jewish blood is not cheap!” they had taken to the
streets.

Strassberg said he had been standing on the sidewalk on Kingston Avenue to
photograph the action Thursday night when he and five friends were hauled
into a police van.

He said that when he asked why he was being arrested, the police officers
cursed him into silence and tightened his cuffs. He said that a friend of
his who asked to be given back his yarmulke was choked by a police
sergeant.

“They were treating us worse than criminals,” he said. “The police are not
out to protect us but to get us.”

While the mayor said the police handled the incident “superbly,” members
of
the Hasidic community, who say they videotaped officers dispersing crowds
with kicks and nightsticks, are calling for justice. They are talking
about
police brutality.

Others are talking about equality.

Shawn Ward-Maxwell, a black artist who has lived all his 23 years
alongside
the Hasidim, does not necessarily dispute their account. He just thinks
they got a taste of what black and Hispanic youths have long endured from
the police.

“We’ve been crying out police brutality for years and nobody ever
listens,”
Ward-Maxwell said. “It’s nothing new. It happens to everybody except them.
Things are equaling out.”

Don’t expect a new ethnic coalition emerging, though. The young Hasidic
men
mingling outside of Lubavitch headquarters on Eastern Parkway saw the
confrontation as proof that the police did not take them seriously. They
said that during the 1991 racial violence, they had had to fend for
themselves while the police did nothing about looters and thugs swarming
through the streets, in one case stabbing a Hasidic scholar to death.

“I don’t think the blacks have been as abused as we were,” said Eli
Reiter,
17, a student. “We have to show we can’t be thrown around. The blacks can
kill and do anything. But the Jews are nice people. We never react? We
have
to show we have something to stand for.”

Perhaps. But there’s a Rashomon-like quality to the recollections of
residents. Some blacks in the neighborhood think the Hasidim have long
been
catered to by the police, who close streets for Hasidic celebrations and
patrol the area with a regularity unmatched in other neighborhoods.

“Everybody sees justice in a different eye,” said Tom Lappet, a retired
firefighter who has lived in Crown Heights for 25 years. “Until you’re a
victim, you have no foundation to talk about justice.”

Justice isn’t just measured by the law. Lappet, dapper in a tan trench
coat,
walked slowly down Albany Avenue, a cane easing his way. When asked how
blacks and Jews have got along since 1991, Lappet, who is black, pointed
to
a Hasidic bakery across the street.

“Look around you,” he said. “How many black businesses do you see? And if
there is a black business, how many Jews patronize it? I can understand
supporting your own, but equality only works one way, I guess.”

A few yards away, Ricardo Rodriguez stood inside his bodega, which on some
days may be the closest thing to common ground for the area’s Jewish,
black
and Hispanic residents.

He said that the fracas the night before could have been avoided if the
patrol members had alerted the police rather than confronting the suspects
directly.

“They want to do things their way,” he said. “I don’t agree with that. You
have to respect the police. They either protect you or they don’t.”

Strassberg, who once belonged to a community patrol, doesn’t see it as a
vigilante group. He said that if the police moved more quickly on the
smaller crimes, maybe events wouldn’t swirl out of control as they did on
Thursday night.

“A bike is not the issue,” he said. “If you let go a small thing, a big
thing is nothing.”

What kind of thing was Thursday’s protest?

“This is not a simple matter,” Strassberg said.

Last night, I watched the “60 Minutes” segment about the artificial famine
in the country called Iraq. The more things change, the more things stay
the same, to use a trite expression.

I remember my mother telling me when she was still a young, unmarried
student in Odessa during the early 30s when the Ukraine was sealed off
from
the rest of the world to force the people living there into a New World
Order system……only it wasn’t called that then. It was called
“collectivization” and stood for genocide.

While every day the corpse cart came and went and picked up people lying
the
gutter, she said that American reporters would stand there, next to
corpses,
pencils poised, and ask each other: “Famine? Do you see famine? I don’t
see famine anywhere.” To this day, most people in the West have no idea
what happened in those years in the Ukraine, and who had manufactured it.

I have a letter here to the United Church Observer, written by Ian
MacDonald
of Canada, a former career diplomat. I understand it was not published
because it did not pass the “politically correct” smilometer. I want to
bring it here in full:

“You devoted 8 pages and the cover of the May, 1996 issue of the Observer
to
food shortages, but I found not one word about the desperate plight of the
children of Iraq. These unfortunates, with their elders, have suffered
for
over five years from the effects of international sanctions that have
deprived their country of the necessary foreign exchange earnings to pay
for
adequate supplies of food and medicine, to say nothing of the other
prerequisites to well-being. As a result, many hundreds of thousands of
young children have died needlessly (560,000 up to October, 1995,
according
to FAO) and hundreds of thousands more have been permanently disabled by
inadequate diet.

The cruel irony of the Iraq tragedy is that Canada, a normally
compassionate
Christian country, is a party to these brutal sanctions. At the same
time,
Canada praises and even subsidizes the worst offender in the Middle East
(responsible indirectly for Iraq’s suffering) namely the State of Israel.

In contrast to Iraq, Israel mercilessly suppresses Christianity in her
conquered territories, destroys Christian Holy Places (including the
Biblical village of Emmaeus) and even takes Christian lives (including
that
of the kindly Dr. Mattar, Keeper of the Garden Tomb in Jerusalem who was
killed in cold blood by the first Israeli soldiers to visit the Tomb after
the seizure of the Christian Quarter).

Under the circumstances, it is a shocking commentary on the (lack of)
sensitivity of the United Church Observer that it would accept advertising
>from El-Al, the official Israeli airline. The Government of Israel should
be condemned and penalized, not rewarded, for its crimes against humanity,
especially after the latest massacre in South Lebanon.

A former editor, Dr. Al Forrest, spoke out fearlessly against injustice
and
intolerance in the Middle East. Is it too much to expect that his
successors should match his courage and insight?

I would be grateful if this letter could be published intact!”

I remember the start of the Gulf War very well because that was the first
time that I noticed General Colen Powell. I will never forget the look on
his face when he said of the Iraqi: “We will surround them. And we will
kill them.”

Do those two sentences qualify as the Final Solution for the people of
Iraq?
Unlike what might or might not have been said at the Conference at
Wannsee,
there is a record of General Powell’s statement. Will the day come when
he’ll be hanged for that at Nuremberg?

I received the following from a reader in Switzerland who took the
information below from a regular news wire.

task of bringing those responsible for the horrendous crimes of the Hitler

Nonetheless, the German soldiers were executed and to this day never
rehabilitated by the Germans or the Russians, even though Gorbachev
ADMITTED
Katyn as one of Stalin’s crimes!

These “horrendous” crimes must be in the same realm as the fictitious
“holocaust”- or the conviction rate would be in the 90+%.

_Avoiding political storm, German high court backs tough asylum law_ (AP)

Chancellor Helmut Kohl said the ruling was “very helpful for the future.”

The court, meeting at its seat in Karlsruhe, dismissed appeals by five
refugees who charged the asylum law was unconstitutional.

A spokeswoman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, Judith Kumin,
called the verdict “disappointing.” Asylum-ssiders safe often have trouble
getting a fair hearing there, she
said.

The government wants to deport her to Greece, the “safe country” from
which
she arrived. Essa says Greece might expel her to Turkey, which in turn
might
send her back to Iraq.

Extreme-right attacks dropped by about half, to 1,489 in 1994 from 2,639
in
1992. Figures for last year are expected to show another decrease.

Germany now grants asylum to about 9 percent of applicants.

The court upheld the law’s controversial “safe third nation” rule for
refugees who enter Germany not from their homelands, but via a European
Union country or any other that Germany deems safe.

In practice, it means all refugees who enter Germany by land are
automatically sent back to the transit nations.

The group urged the government Tuesday to suspend this rule.

The court banned deportations of refugees to countries that might send
them
back home without examining their cases. But it granted the German
government leeway in deciding each case.

Also upheld was a provision under which refugees whose homelands are
deemed
free of persecution and who enter Germany by land can be sent home
immediately.
