John Hron Office of Forensic Medicine
A. 1995-08-18, on demand of the Police Department of Gothenburg and Bohus an
extended forensic autopsy was performed on the dead body of Hron, John.
The autopsy was performed by the undersigned at the Forensic Medicine
Department in Gothenburg in the presence of autopsy assistant Christer
Lindstrand.
The identity was evident from a nameplate attached to the right wrist.
B. The circumstances in the case are evident from a preliminary report from
the Police Department of Gothenburgh and Bohus record nr K 82140-95, dated
1995-08-17.
1. The dead boby is 182 cm long and weighs 68 kilo.
2. The general color of the skin is pale.
3. The post mortem spots are purple and symmetrically distributed at the
back side of the body. There is sand and mud on the skin. The skin on hands
and feet is somewhat pale, softened and wrinkled.
4. General rigor mortis remains.
5. The head is covered with approximately 20 cm long dark blond hair. The
hair is shaven off within the temples and behind the ears. In the hair
there is humid and dried blood.
6. On the face, the temples, the ears, behind the ears and on the neck there
is widely spread skin damage. The right ear is swollen and discolored
purple. In the auditory canal there is blood. At the upper edge of the ear
there is one 0,8 x 0,3 cm and one 0,5 x 0,3 cm transverse area where the
skin is grazed off. At the back of the ear there is a 1,5 cm long and about
1 mm wide skin-deep wound with ragged edges. Behind the ear the skin is
swollen and discolored purple within a 3 cm wide area with its upper
boundary on a level with the upper hold of the ear. This swelling and
discoloration continues in a swelling and discoloration on the neck.
7. At the right temple the skin has been grazed off within an area of 8 x 8
cm. The upper boundary is vaguely curved. Within the upper part of the area
there are areas about 1 x 1 mm in size that run together where the skin
has been grazed off. In the middle of the area there are scattered parts
where the skin has been grazed off. In the lower part of the area the skin
has been grazed off in a connected transverse area of 4 x 3 cm.
8. The left ear is swollen and discolored purple. At the upper edge of the
ear the skin is grazed off within a 0,5 x 0,3 cm area. Furthermore the
skin is grazed off within a 1 x 0,3 cm area.
9. At the left temple and behind the ear the skin is discolored purple
within an area of 13 x 13 cm. The anterior and upper boundary of the area
is vaguely curved. Within the anterior part of the area there is at its
largest 0,5 x 0,5 cm areas where the skin has been grazed off, partly
spread and partly gathered in transverse, at their largest 3 x 0,5 cm,
areas. 1,5 cm behind the middle of the ear there are large transverse
scratches close to one another running in the longitudinal direction of the
area within a 1,5 x 1 cm area. One cm above this transversal area there
are, flowing together, streak formed areas within 4 x 1,5 cm where
scrape the skin has been grazed off. They are diagonal and directed downwards
towards the centre line of the body. Around these mentioned areas where the
skin has been grazed off there are scattered, at their largest 0,5 x 0,5 cm
areas where the skin has been grazed off.
10. At the forehead to the right with its lower boundary at the eyebrow and
its left boundary at the centre line there are purple discolorations and
offscraped skin within a 8 x 4 cm transverse area. Above the middle of
the eyebrow the skin is discolored purple within a 2,5 x 1,5 cm clearly
defined area. Within the left part of the transverse area the skin is
discolored purple within four at their largest 1 x 0,2 cm diagonal areas
lying at a distance from each other of 0,3 cm. These discolorations are
directed toward the centre line of the face. 0,5 cm to the right of these
discolorations there is a sharply defined 2,5 x 0,5 cm purple
discoloration. It is longitudinal and vaguely curved. Above these described
purple discolorations there is a diffuse purplish discoloration and
offscrapings of skin about 1 mm in size. Within the back part and the upper
part of the transversal area the skin is scraped off in a 1 x 0,5 cm area.
11. 1 cm above the middle of the left eyebrow there is a 3 x 3 cm area with
a diffuse blueish discoloration. Furthermore there are dot formed bleedings
in longitudinal thoroughfares, and three at their largest 0,5 x 0,5 cm
patches of scraped-off skin.
12. To the left at the forehead on can furthermore observe scattered dot
shaped purple discolorations.
13. The right eyelids and the cheek are badly swollen and discolored
purple. The swelling and discoloration continues over the edge of the lower
jaw down on to the neck and within the eyebrow. On the upper eyelid there
is a 1,5 cm long about 1mm-wide and about 1mm-deep wound with ragged edges.
On the cheek there are 3 cm long and 1 mm wide areas of abrasion of skin gathered
within a 0,3 x 0,6 cm area extending in the longitudinal direction of the
body. At the joint between the lower eyelid and the cheek the skin has been
shallowly abraded within an area of 1 x 1 cm.
14. The left eyelid and the cheek and the skin over the zygomatic bone are
swollen and discolored purple. The discoloration and swelling are at their
most apparent at the eyelids. At the lower eyelid at the joint to the
cheek there is a heavy purple discoloration within an area of 2 x 2 cm. To
the left of the left outer corner of the eye and at the zygomatic bone
there are superficial offscrapes of skin within a 5 x 2 cm area stretching
in the longitudinal direction of the body. Furthermore on the cheek there
are at their largest 2,5 x 0,5 cm purple discolorations sharply defined,
partly curved and diagonal, directed downward towards the centre line of
the fore centre line of the neck.
15. To the right at the neck there are purple discolorations flowing
together or defined continuing in discolorations in the face and behind the
ear. The purple discolorations on the neck are gathered within a 4 x 10 cm
area. The area is transversal with its left boundary in the centre line of
the neck. A diffuse blueish discoloration can be observed and also dot
formed purple discolorations about 1 mm in size assembled in groups and
streaks. Furthermore heavy purple discolorations in at their largest 4 x
0,5 cm streaks and 2 x 1,5 cm spots are observed. The streaks are mainly
transverse and sharply defined.
16. Within the centre line of the neck and to the left of the centre line of
the neck there is a 5 x 4 cm transverse area with dotted purple
discolorations in groups. Furthermore there is a 0,5 x 0,3 cm offscrape of
skin.
17. At the neck, to the left, with the upper boundary formed by the
mandible, there is a 8 x 7 cm area with dot formed purple discolorations
most of them gathered in at their largest 6 cm long and 0,5 cm wide
streaks. The streaks are slightly curved with their convexity directed
backward towards the back of the head. The streaks run in the longitudinal
direction of the body or diagonally, directed toward the centre line of the
neck.
18. At the nape of the neck straight to the left of the centre line the skin
is discolored purple within an area of 7 x 7 cm. The fore boundary is
convex and clearly defined. The convexity is directed forward. Within the
area there are purple discolorations about 1 mm in size gathered in groups
or streaks. Furthermore there are at their largest about 1 cm long streaks
of dot formed purple discolorations.
19. In the conjuctivas of the eyes there are massive black-red bleeding
flowing together. The conjuctivas are discharged.
20. In the openings of the nose there is mud and blood-colored slime. The
nasal bone seems to be intact.
21. On the left wing of the nose the skin is discolored purple within an
area of 1,5 x 1,5 cm.
22. Over the root of the nose the skin is discolored purple. The
discoloration is a continuation of the discoloration at the eyelids.
23. The upper lip is swollen. In the mucous membrane there are blackish red
bleedings partly flowing together. In the lip-red part of the upper lip and
in the right part of the mucous membrane there is a 1,5 x 1,5 cm area with
superficial ruptures with surrounding bleedings. Furthermore there is a 0,5
x 0,2 cm wound a couple of mm:s deep with ragged edges. In the lip-red
part of the upper lip and in the left part of the mucous membrane on can
observe a wound about 1 cm long and 1 mm wide. It is superficial with
ragged edges. Furthermore there are at their largest 0,3 x 0,3 cm
superficial wounds with ragged edges.
24. The lower lip is a bit swollen. In the mucous membrane to the left there
are three at their largest 0,3 x 0,2 cm superficial wounds with ragged
edges and surrounding bleedings. In the lip-red part and in the right part
of the mucous membrane there are at their largest 0,5 x 0,1 cm superficial
wounds with ragged edges and surrounding bleedings. The left upper eyetooth
is broken. In the mouth there is blood mixed with froth.
25. Directly above the right armpit there are dot formed purple
discolorations gathered in at their largest 3 cm long and 0,3 cm wide
streaks running in the longitudinal direction of the arm. Furthermore to
the outside of the bowed side of the brachium there are at their largest 2
cm long 1 mm wide streaks of dot formed bleedings. These streaks are
gathered within a 10 x 3 cm area with its upper boundary in level with the
upper edge of the armpit. The streaks are diagonal and directed downwards
towards the inner side of the elbow.
26. Directly above the stretch side of the wrist there are two parallel at
their largest about 1 cm long streak formed offscrapings of skin.
27. At the side of the little finger of the right hand, above the lower
part of the ossa metacarpalia (latin) the skin is discolored purple within
an area of 1,5 x 1,5. The demarcation is sharp.
28. On the stretch side of the outer joint of the right forefinger a 0,3 x
0,3 cm pale patch of skin is loosened.
29. On the stretch side of the right brachium with an upper boundary on
level with the upper edge of the armpit the skin is discolored purple and
superficially scraped off within one 2,5 x 0,5 cm and one 1,5 x 0,3 cm
transversal area. The areas are slightly curved with its convexity directed
upwards. The areas are about 1,5 cm from each others. Between these areas
there is a vague blueish discoloration. Furthermore there are two at their
largest 3 cm long 1 mm wide streak formed offscrapings of skin.
30. At the inside of the right elbow there is a 1 x 1 cm purple
discoloration.
31. In the corium at the middle of the stretch side of the right forearm
there is a blackish red bleeding about 1 cm large. Over the inner elbow
bump there is a blackish red bleeding about 1 cm large. There are blackish
red bleedings in the corium that corresponds to the injuries to the skin.
32. On the stretch side of the knuckle of the left ring finger a 0,6 x 0,6
cm patch of skin has been loosened.
33. On the left side of the front of the shoulder there are dot formed
purple discolorations within a 10 x 8 cm area. The discolorations are
gathered in irregular groups.
34. On the upper side and front of the left shoulder there are about 1 mm
purple discolorations within an area of 7 x 5 cm. The discolorations are
gathered in groups and streaks. The area is directed in the longitudinal
direction of the body.
35. To the right on the chest directly above the nipple there are dot formed
transversal purple discolorations gathered in groups or streaks within an
area of 9 x 4 cm. Furthermore the skin has been grazed off within an 3 x 1
cm transversal area.
36. Directly beneath the right armpit the skin has bee scraped off within a
6 x 2,5 cm transversal area. The lower boundary is sharply defined. The
upper boundary is diffuse. The area merges to the front into a 2,5 x 2 cm
transversal area with dot formed purple discolorations.
37. To the right on the chest with the lower boundary formed by the bow of
the ribs and 4 cm to the right of the centre line of the body there are
three curved, at their largest 2cm long and 0,5 cm wide areas with dot
formed purple discolorations. The areas are at a distance from each others
of about 2 cm. The convexity is directed upwards to the right shoulder.
Directly below these areas there are dot formed bleedings gathered in three
at their largest 2 cm long and 0,5 cm wide slightly curved or straight
streaks.
38. To the left of the centre line of the chest and with an upper boundary
at the lower edge of the scapula there are dot formed purple discolorations
within a 14 x 10 cm transversal area. The discolorations are partly
diffusely spread and occur partly in transversal or longitudinal streaks.
39. Directly to the right of and below the left nipple there are dot formed
purple discolorations within an area of 10 x 9 cm. The area is directed in
the longitudinal direction of the body. The discolorations are gathered in
groups or transversal, at their largest 2,5 cm long, streaks. Within the
lower left part of the area the dot formed purple discolorations are
gathered in a 2,5 x 1 cm transversal slightly curved area.
40. On the abdomen 3 cm to the right of the centre line and 1,5 cm above the
navel there are dot formed purple discolorations within an area of at its
longest 7 cm and its widest 1,5 cm. Within the right part of the area the
discolorations are gathered in groups or streaks. Below this area there are
vague purple discolorations gathered within two at their largest 2 x 1,5 cm
areas and two at their largest 2,5 cm long slightly curved streaks.
41. 13 cm above the left hip joint at the left side of the torso there is a
2 x 2 cm purple discoloration.
42. At the middle of the left shoulder there are purple discolorations about
1 mm of size close to each others within a 1,5 x 1 cm area. 0,5 cm to the
right of this area there is a 0,5 x 0,5 cm similar area.
43. At the right shoulder 4 cm below its upper edge and 2 cm to the left of
its right edge there is a 6 x 0,5 cm transversal area upon which the skin
has been superficially grazed off and upon which there are dot formed
black-red bleedings.
44. At the back there are longitudinal parallel streaks where the skin has
been superficially grazed off within an area of 19 x 10 cm. Furthermore
there are streaks of about 1 mm wide blackish red bleedings flowing
together. The streaks are diagonally directed downwards towards the centre
line of the back. The left boundary of the area is in the centre line and
its lower boundary 15 cm above the hip joint.
45. Within the centre line of the back there is a 12 x 8 cm area running in
the longitudinal direction of the body. The area is situated 8 cm above the
hip joint. Within the upper part of the area there are at their largest 1,5
cm long parallel scratches and streaks with dot formed bleedings. Within
the middle of the area and to the left there are two at their largest 1,5 x
1,5 cm offscrapings of skin. Within the lower left part of the area there
are two about 1 cm large areas with 0,5 cm long streak formed offscrapings
of skin. The streaks are diagonal and directed downward towards the left
hip. Within the lower right part of the area there are streakformed
offscrapings of skin, at their largest 2 cm long and parallel. Furthermore
there are four at their largest 0,5 cm long and 0,2 cm wide superficial
wounds with ragged edges. Three wounds are closely together.
46. Corresponding to the skin damages at the shoulder blades there is a
small black-red bleedings in the corium. At the rest of the back there are
moderate black-red bleedings in the corium.
47. At the outside of the right shank and directly below the knee cap there
are two 0,5 x 0,1 cm offscrapings of skin. A small bleeding is observed in
the corium.
48. At the front side or the right shank towards the outside the skin has
been grazed off in dot shaped areas 32 cm above the sole of the foot. The
offscrapings are gathered within a 3 x 2 cm transversal area. 5 cm below
this transversal area the skin has been scraped off within a 3 x 2 cm
transversal area. The demarcation is sharp. A small blackish red bleeding
is observed in the corium.
49. At the stretch side of the right ankle joint there is a 0,2 x 0,2 cm
offscraping of skin with a small bleeding in the corium. Over the inner
ankle there is a 0,3 x 0,2 cm offscraping of skin without bleeding in the
corium.
50. One cm below the lower edge of the knee cap at the right shank the skin
has been grazed off within two at their largest 0,2 x 0,2 cm areas. There
is no bleeding in the corium.
51. On the front side of the shank 34 cm above the sole of the foot there is
a 0,5 x 0,3 cm offscraping of skin. There is an abundant black-red bleeding
in the corium.
52. Below, on the outside of the left shank there is a offscrape of skin
within a 2 x 1,5 cm area 19 cm above the sole of the foot. There is no
bleeding in the corium.
53. On the inside of the left knee there is a moderate 5 x 3 cm blackish red
bleeding.
54. External sexual organ intact.
55. Anus intact.
