Since the printed edition of this book came to light, several important events pertaining to its publication took place:
- The official launching of the volume, in May 1997, when the then Romanian Government has officially recognized its war crimes against the Jews.
- The Jewish Book Awards Committee at the Toronto Koffler Centre of the Arts, honoured the author with "The Canadian Society For Yad Vashem Award for Holocaust History, 1997"
- In April 1998, The Ianculovici Cultural Foundation, in Israel granted the author "The Holocaust Literature Prize for 1998."
- On September 27, 2000, the author received a citation from the Canadian House of Commons for her work on behalf of Holocaust survivors and "the betterment of your families, communities and country."
During those moving ceremonies, a significant number of personalities applauded the value and the timeliness of this publication.
An additional heart-warming outcome, after the publication of the book, was the receipt of a myriad of moving letters and phone calls, whereby readers informed us that a number of survivors, who had long lost contact with each other, have re-connected through information they found in this book.
Dozens of grateful letters from readers have reinforces the value and the timeliness of this publication. Excerpts from some of those letters (written in reaction to the printed edition) have been included in "Readers' Reactions."
The author continues to lecture on the history of the Holocaust in Romania in Canada and the U.S.A. These lectures, both to youth and to adults are focussed on the tragic results of prejudice and discrimination and how each individual person can contribute to the development of respect for our differences and harmonious relationships between all people.
This special electronic edition includes an update regarding the position of certain political groups in reference to the Holocaust in Romania. It also contains several new personal testimonies, which attest to the systematic destruction of the Jewish communities in Romania proper, as well as in Transnistria. FSC
