Subject: Czech Jews provide Gestapo with population stats

I though this would interest those dealing with the issue of whether
or not the Nazis had an accurate picture of the Jewish population
under their control.. i.e. was the Wannsee estimate based upon facts?

   "Public leaders of small communities met to consider the future:
   what was to become of the sick and the old, of property and
   apartments? Where would they live in Prague? What about the vast
   majority who had no means of financing emigration? There were some
   towns in which the local authorities displayed amazing energy,
   demanding that the Jews decamp within two weeks. Appeals were made
   to Eichmann through intermediaries from the Czech government,
   asking if family heads alone could go to Prague to arrange
   emigration, while their families waited at home. In the name of
   efficiency, communities were asked to furnish the Gestapo with
   statistics on their members (according to age, six, and occupation)
   and on local Jewish organizations. The swelling Prague community
   administration added a statistics department and a housing
   department to its operation." (Bondy, 145)
