And Larson is getting support from the person whose activities prompted the label. "I want a national public apology with as much media fanfare as the original statement was given," Larson demanded yesterday "This is an insult." Larson was upset after Sol Littman of the Nazi-hunting Simon Wiesenthal Centre labeled Oliver a "hate capital" because it is home to a provider of racist Internet Web sites. ["The ADL, like the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, has built its financial appeal to Jews on its ability to portray the Jewish people as surrounded by enemies who are on the verge of launching threatening anti-Semitic campaigns. It has a professional stake in exaggerating the dangers, and sometimes allows existing racial or political prejudices in the Jewish world to influence how it will portray the potential dangers." - Michael Lerner, ex-ADL president, in _Jews and Blacks: Let the Healing Begin_] In a press conference Thursday in Vancouver, Littman said Fairview Technology, based in this town of 4,500, has several clients who disseminate what is considered hate literature. The clients include Web sites for the National Socialist Movement of Illinois, the Heritage Front, Skin-Net and the Euro-Christian Defence League. "This literature is not processed here. It comes from all corners of North America," Larson said. Bernard Klatt, who owns Fairview Technology, has avoided talking with reporters, but responding via E-mail, he praised Larson's stance. "I support and applaud Larson's demand for Mr. Littman to issue a public apology for his prevarications slander against my home tome," Klatt said. "Why does Mr. Littman continue to malign the residents of Oliver? What evidence does he offer of any involvement by the town of Oliver with the Web site content he complains of?" < end article >
