- Matt Giwer, June 21, 1996
Matt Giwer has tried to take over alt.revisionism. With trolls,
with insults, with straight-lines, with idiocy, with three-word
responses, with lies, and even with an occasional worthwhile point,
he has buried the signal under an avalanche of noise.
Nizkor wishes, and others wish, to be able to confront "revisionist"
claims. Giwer's aim is to make that impossible.
Giwer has failed in his aim, partly because people have realized
that he is not to be taken too seriously, and partly because his
mainstay technique of spamming was detected as such and cancelled
by Chris Lewis' anti-spam-bot.
This automated posting script keeps track of Giwer's posting volume
and thus his measure of success in distracting the group. If that
measure of success remains sufficiently low, this script will be
discontinued indefinitely.
Here are the statistics for July 29th and 30th:
Total number of articles posted: 483
Articles from Matt Giwer: 33 (6.8%)
Articles mentioning Giwer: 57 (11.8%)
Articles per day from Giwer: 16.5
Articles per day mentioning Giwer: 28.5
Note that the "mentioning" figure includes the "from" figure --
every article from Giwer is assumed to mention Giwer at least once :-)
Here is a graphical representation of posts from Giwer and posts

It is technically possible to cut off Matt Giwer from this group.
However, it would not be morally proper, since he is not conducting
malicious forgeries, (what is usually known as) spamming, or any other
activities which would warrant an infringement on his freedom of speech.
All we can do is ignore him, and hope he gets bored with us and starts
bothering some other group. (He's been annoying people and getting
kicked out of discussion forums for fifteen years; Usenet is the first
he's found where he can't be kicked out.)
Nizkor suggests that alt.revisionism readers keep in mind that he is
trolling, and that they think twice about bothering to respond to him.

I might have a great deal to say if you would please compose an
intelligent post using grammatical sentences. The ones above are nonsense.
If you'd offer a translation of this mumbo-jumbo, I'd be delighted to

"...we may be able to firmly re-establish this as a conference on
revisionism. That is, make it useless to the hijackers."
Here are the statistics for August 5th and 6th:
Total number of articles posted: 309
Articles from Matt Giwer: 26 (8.4%)
Articles mentioning Giwer: 41 (13.3%)
Articles per day from Giwer: 8.7
Articles per day mentioning Giwer: 13.7
Note that the "mentioning" figure includes the "from" figure --
every article from Giwer is assumed to mention Giwer at least once :-)
Here is a graphical representation of posts from Giwer and posts
mentioning Giwer for these days. Each "F" represents one article
>from Giwer; each "m" represents one additional article with the
string "giwer" somewhere in its header or body.
Aug 6: FFFFFFFFFFFFmmmmmmmmmm
Aug 5: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFmmmmm
For comparison, here is the graph for the previous seven days:
Aug 4: FFFFFFFFFFFFFmmmmmm
Aug 3: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFmmmmm
Aug 2: FFmmm
Aug 1: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFm
Jul 31: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFmmmmmmm
Jul 30: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Jul 29: FFFFFFFFFFFmmmmmmmmmm

Which, given how easy it is for most newsreaders to generate
killfiles, it pretty obviously doomed to failure.
