6,000,000? Most "educated" holocausters have scrapped this 
ridiculous figure. Even the total death toll at 
Auschwitz-Birkenau is less than 1,000,000 nowadays. This includes

Shirer's book was one of the first I read concerning WW2. 
Assuming, at that time, that the holocaust was fact I was struck 
by the contents of this huge manuscript. However, if one is 
careful not to permit his political bias and emotions override 
his better judgement, he will discover that Shirer's book is a 
farce which has no other purpose than to deliver a yet another 
Marxist blow to National Socialism.

In 1945 a French bureau stated that 8 million deaths occurred at 
Auschwitz. The Soviet Auschwitz 
Commission said it was 5.5 million. Until 1990, the Polish 
government said it was 4 million but now says it 
was around 1 million for all causes of death. Then, the Jerusalem 
Post (9-30-89)  said "There never were 4 
million victims at Auschwitz." French researcher Georges Wellers 
gives a figure of about 1.6 million. Not to 
be out done, the Jewish newspaper Aufbau wrote on 8-3-90 that the 
total death count was 1.1 million 
including 900,000 Jews. Even the "famed" Jean Claude Pressac 
(backed by the Beate Klarsfeld Foundation) 
was forced to accept figures ranging from 631,000 to 711,000. The 
question is: "HOW LOW CAN YOU GO?" 
and still perpetuate a myth?

Conjuring up legend and lore really isn't all that harmful but 
this one has become an expensive one for U.S. 
taxpayers with respect to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. 
According to the 1995 federal budget, $26.6 
million was alloted for the "museum". Another $28.7 million is 
expected to be appropriated for 1996.
