   "In 1933 when Hitler came to power, there were a half million Jews
   living in Germany. Sixty thousand emigrated during the first two
   years of the National Socialist Party's regime. Germans urged their
   Jewish friends to leave, as did some Jewish leaders like Berlin's
   Rabbi Baeck. Those with inside glimpses into the new regime were
   particularly adamant. Frieda Suss repeatedly urged her mother's
   Jewish neighbors in Bavaria to leave. Suss was married to an
   official with the French embassy in Berlin and knew that Jews were
