Subject: Mail Bombing

                NOTICE TO ALL NSWPP LISTSERV & NSNET SUBSCRIBERS        

        At 1730 hours EDT 11 September I received a call from the Earthlink
abuse administrator. Apparently there have been a number of massive spams or
"mail bombings" carried out in the past 24 hours where an undetermined
number of people have received e-mails allegedly from the NSWPP. These
fraudulent e-mails all bear the name "Harold Covington" in the header, just
to make sure everybody gets the (bogus) message. (The genuine NSWPP header
has "NSWPP-CSU" in it, as you know.) Apparently a number of insulting,
abusive, and threatening messages are being sent to various individuals
under this false header as well.

        Needless to say, there have been a number of complaints. To add
insult to injury, in most cases it apparently isn't even our material which
was sent out, but forwards of things like "Conspiracy Nation", i.e. the
purpose of the whole exercise is simply to cause annoyance and generate
complaints to Earthlink. 

        It has been suggested to me that Rich Graves or someone with a
similar mentality has done this particular act as a prank in order to force
us to hide behind an encryption system, thus compelling us to yield to the
kind of paranoia which is all to prevalent on the net. (Although as we have
seen today, just because you're paranoid don't mean they ain't out to get you.) 

        Well---that's POSSIBLE. I stated earlier today that the forged
header sounded like Rich Graves, but on reflection now I'm not so sure. It
doesn't seem quite to fit my estimate of his character. Can anyone tell me
if Graves has ever been proven to be a participant in a "mail bombing" or
anything like this before? I have to admit, this is starting to sound a lot
more like Nizkor to me.

        I hope that Earthlink will be able to resist this kind of
cyber-thuggery and continue to stand up for free speech and freedom of
conscience as they have done in the past. (Maybe I shouldn't have given them
those words of praise a few days ago---that might be what triggered this.)
IF you are suddenly unable to get through to the NSWPP at our Earthlink
address, you will know they have crumpled.
