"San Antonio College Targeted by Holocaust Denial Group"

        The University of the Incarnate Word is a relatively
small college in San Antonio.  Still, it was targeted by the
Committee for Open Debate [sic], a group distributing ads in
college or newspapers "to prove" the Holocaust never happened.

        After agonizing reflection, the editor of _Logos_, the
Incarnate newspaper, decided to print the ad and donate the
payment to the Anne Frank Museum.

        The Incarnate story was related to Ben Giladi, editor of
_The Voice_, journal of the Piotrkow Society, by Dr. William
Samelson, visiting professor at Trinity University in San Antonio.
Dr. Samelson wrote an essay in the _Voice_ on Holocaust denial.
Alongside the essay is the editorial of _Logos_ on "Personal
Values vs. Journalistic Responsibilities."  The editor opted for
the former.

Decision:  Print Wrong Information

        "I was appalled Smith [Bradley Smith, COD {sic} leader],
thought to use college students and the Incarnate Word community
as a forum to support his group in its endeavor.  I knew I had to
make a decision whether to run the ad or leave it out of the
_Logos_...  "Personally, I felt it was wrong to run the ad
because I would be printing false information and offending
hundreds of people for only a $175 ad.  However, as a journalist,
I felt obligated to run the ad and exercise freedom of expression.
But I also had to realize it was wrong to print false
information....

        "I myself have disagreed with several statements printed
in the _Logos_ and, unfortunately, I have offended others through
controversial articles.  Therefore, I decided to publish the ad
with a disclaimer, express how narrow-minded these people are and
donate the $175 to the Anne Frank Museum."
