Archive/File: fascism/sweden legal.092594 Last-Modified: 1994/11/21 From: firstname.lastname@example.org (Matthias Neeracher) Date: 25 Sep 1994 18:10:01 GMT Subject: Vote results: Switzerland gets law against racism Swiss voters today accepted with 1'132'326 against 939'739 votes a new law that punishes with fine or prison people who - publicly demand hate or discrimination against a person or a group of persons based on their race, ethnicity, or religion, - publicly spread ideologies that intend the systematic disparagement or slandering of members of a race, ethnicity or religion, - with the same objective organize, promote or take part in propaganda actions, - publicly in word, writing, image, gesture, assault or in other ways disparage or discriminate a person or a group of persons based on their race, ethnicity or religion in a manner violating the dignity of man or for one of these reasons deny, severely minimize or attempt to justify genocide or other crimes against humanity, - deny a service intended for the public to a person or a group of persons based on their race, ethnicity or religion. Cantonal votes were exactly split in half: 13 cantons and semicantons voted for the law, 13 against (If this had been a constitutional amenment, it would have failed for this reason). Acceptance was highest in Geneva, with 65.7% yes votes, while in Schwyz, 61.9% voted no. The canton of Zurich contributed with 58.4% yes votes approximately one third of the yes majority. .........
