ISSN 1445-0402 ------------------------------------------- CONTENTS * Far right gathers in solidarity * SA politician attends fringe forum * Undressing antisemitism ***** Far right gathers in solidarity Members of Australia’s far right have converged on Launceston, Tasmania to lend their support to a local woman appearing in the Federal Court over the distribution of antisemitic material. Former schoolteacher Olga Scully, is fighting an order that seeks to enforce a 2000 Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) ruling that found she had breached the Racial Discrimination Act. The Commission ordered her stop disseminating antisemitic literature and to apologise to the Jewish Community. Ms Scully, who has addressed a function organised by Australia’s oldest extremist organisation, the Australian League of Rights, has distributed leaflets that HREOC found would “offend, insult, humiliate and intimidate” Jews. The League, clearly concerned about the plight of one of their own, has called on Tasmanian members to attend court and give her “moral and prayer” support. Listed as the Tasmanian associate of the notorious holocaust denying Adelaide Institute, she was helped in her defence by institute director Fredrick Toben. Mr Toben, who was jailed in Germany in 1999, for denying the Holocaust, is due to face court to answer complaints over his web site, which was found to contain “insulting and offensive” expressions against Jews. His colleague, Associate Director of the Adelaide Institute Geoff Muirden, was reportedly also on hand to proffer support. Not known for being discreet about his views, Mr Muirden once targeted a member of the clergy with a series of antisemitic letters in which he claimed that the “Church had sunk so low that it is in bed with the Antichrist (the Jew) and doesn’t even know it”. Elsewhere, Mr Muirden described Jews as belonging to the “Synagogue of Satan” and is listed as the research officer for the racist Australian Civil Liberties Union. Local Holocaust revisionist Ken McCaffrey, was also present and testified in support of Ms Scully. In the past, he has claimed that Anne Frank’s diary was a fake and that investigations “fail to reveal any evidence of gassings”. Similarly supportive was Denis Collins, a former member of the Country Liberal Party in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, who stood as a One Nation candidate at the last Federal election. In court, Mr Collins described Olga Scully as a “watchman” of the Christian faith, but his own claim to fame came in 1991, when Collins used parliamentary privilege to attack Jewish community organisations as being responsible for “pornography and associated crimes”. Several years, later Mr Collins admitted to being a member of the notoriously racist Citizens Electoral Council, an offshoot of the American based La Rouche organisation. When Mr Collins was asked to explain his right wing views, he sought to use biblical texts and claimed that that Jews not only controlled the world economy, but also belonged to the “synagogue of Satan”. As ADC Online goes to print, a decision has yet to be handed down. ***** SA politician attends fringe forum An elected member of South Australia’s Legislative Council, recently gave a speech at a far-right meeting of the minds. Andrew Evans, a senior Pastor with the Assemblies of God and the only parliamentary representative of Family First, spoke at the right wing “Adelaide Forum” about the role his party would play in the State. Sponsored by the Australian Freedom Foundation, the forum had promised to address the issue of whether world events were being “shaped by conspiratorial forces”. The Foundation claims that its membership consists of “committed Christians” and that “true Christians” have a duty to oppose ungodly laws. Its executive director Doug Giddings, has spoken of his belief in the conspiracy of the control of world government by a “powerful group of people,” and in 1995, acted as the South Australian organiser for the unsuccessful tour by visiting US extreme right-winger Jack McLamb. Joining Mr Evans at the forum were · Rob Lowe, a long time activist with the Sporting Shooters’ Association; · John Hepworth, Bishop of the Continuing Anglican Church; · Neil Russell-Taylor, One Nation South Australian president. Christian lay preacher and fellow speaker Bruce Hannaford, promoted the event on his website and roundly condemned Christian churches as both wrong and “poor Bible students” for speaking up for illegal immigrants in Australia. He also accused Muslims of having a “religious duty” to kill all infidels such as “Christian Australians”. ***** Undressing antisemitism The conflict in the Middle East has been enthusiastically manipulated by Australian far-right organisations in an effort to disguise their antisemitic attacks as legitimate criticisms of Israel. In a recent slur, the Victorian extremist newspaper The Strategy claimed that Israel was responsible for the terrorist attack against the United States on September 11 last year. In his article, The Strategy reporter Willem Lankhorst attacks Jews as having been: · targeted by “intensive Israel-Homeland brainwashing”; · conditioned never to forget the Holocaust; · killed in the Holocaust so that “survivors could be enticed” to settle in Israel; · “sacrificed” during World War II by the global elite for the “penultimate global empire”. Not to be outdone, the Australian League of Rights publication On Target is keen to use the same tactic. This organisation’s national director Betty Luks has described “the underlying philosophy of Judaism” as a one way street, and is also eager to promote a blood libel claiming that Israel is killing Palestinian boys and “harvesting their body parts for organ transplants”. The full article which is taken from the website of Holocaust denier David Irving, states that Israeli doctors had “extracted vital organs” from the bodies of Palestinians killed by the Israeli Army in Gaza and the West Bank.
