1944: Bowing to pressure from other governments, the
Germans in Italy agree to allow Jews of Turkish, Spanish,
Portugese, Swiss, Swedish, and Finnish citizenship to return
home. (USHMM 1994, 41)

SS Sturmbannfuehrer (SS Major) Richard Baer is appointed
commandant of Auschwitz I. His predecessor, Liebehenschel,
is transferred to Majdanek concentration camp. (Ibid.)
