1943

Roosevelt suggests to Undersecretary of State Sumner Welles
that help be provided to the war's refugees, perhaps through
the establishment of new refugee camps in neutral and
liberated countries in Europe and North Africa. The next day
Roosevel leaves for conferences in Cairo and Teheran, and
his suggestion is sidetracked. (USHMM, 1993, p. 50)

1944

The commandant of Theresienstadt orders the destruction of
urns containing the ashes of deceased Jews. Prisoners are
informed that the ashes will be buried in the Prague Jewish
cemetery; however, they are dumped into the Ohre (in German,
Eger) River and are also buried near the labor camp at
Litomerice. (USHMM, 1994, p. 67)
