1944
Himmler issues a decree on Combatting Youth Gangs such as
"Edelweiss pirates" and "swing youth." In Cologne-Ehrenfeld,
throughout the fall of 1944, local "Edelweiss pirates" join
an underground group that offers shelter in the ruins of the
bombed city to deserters, prisoners of war, and escapees
from the concentration camps. (USHMM, 1994, p. 65)
