Russian who, along with some other
comrades, attempted escape. Unfortunately,
he was caught and beaten to death on roll
call square before the eyes of all the
prisoners. From Mueller and Knoll he
received no fewer than 154 lashes with the
whip on the naked buttocks. The tortured
prisoner had long since lost
consciousness, yet the beasts continued to
